THE THREE VILLAGES β ONE COMMUNITY PROJECT TEAM COMMENCES WORK ON MULTI-MILLION EURO PEACEPLUS PROJECT
An important milestone was reached this week when the Project team for the Three Villages β One Community PEACEPLUS project commenced work. The Project is based in rural, cross-border locations in County Fermanagh Northern Ireland and in County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland.
Led by Ederney Community Development Trust, and with project partners, Kesh Development Association and the Association for the Development of Pettigo and Tullyhommon, the project has been awarded 6,721,047EURO PEACEPLUS funding and is designed to deliver health, wellbeing, and social enterprise focused infrastructure in Ederney and Kesh in North Fermanagh, and Pettigo in South Donegal.
The project focuses on building cohesive, peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous cross-community & cross-border relations between neighbouring rural communities with a history of conflict and segregation and aims to contribute to long-term systemic change, peace, and prosperity.
The project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
Chair of Ederney Community Development Trust (ECDT), Martin Monaghan, said: βThis is another fantastic day for our communities. This is a genuine, from the ground up, cross-community and community-led project.
Over the last number of years our communities decided that we would reimagine, redefine and re-design our futures, and equally important, that we collaborate on a cross-community basis in that process. This PEACEPLUS funding will build on all of the successes of the last number of years, and more than that, it will allow us to embed good relations, sustainability and health and well-being into our future communities.
The Project team consists of:
Stephen McElrone, Programme Manager
Sarah Jane Parkinson, Cross-Border Project Worker
Kate McGee, Finance and Administration Officer
Dr. Anne Monaghan, Monitoring and Communications Officer
L-R β Sean Donnelly, Project Lead (ECDT), Sarah-Jane Parkinson, Dr. Anne Monaghan, Kate McGee and Stephen McElrone.
