Even on warm, sunny days, water temperatures can remain dangerously low. 💙

Cold water shock can happen in seconds, causing an involuntary gasp, loss of breathing control and panic. This sudden reaction makes it much harder to stay calm and keep yourself safe.

Studies show that people’s ability to swim in cold water is significantly reduced compared to swimming in a warm pool, meaning even confident swimmers can quickly struggle.

Understanding these risks can make all the difference. Taking a moment to prepare and knowing how your body may react could help save your life.

The first meeting of young people who will be the new youth shadow board for Farnley East - Pride In Place!

Fantastic group of young people from our youth clubs, Farnley Academy and Dixons Unity Academy.

Great discussions already on what the group would like to see happen in their area. With ideas ranging from better playground facilities to safe places for young people to drop in.

Mental health and LGBTQ+ issues were also a big topic of discussion.

We finished off the evening with a climbing session, where the group got to know each other and complete challenges on the climbing tower. This included climbing blind folded!

We are so excited to work with the Pride In Place team and put the young people’s thoughts and ideas into practice.

Thanks to West Leeds Activity Centre for hosting us!

Our First Youth Shadow Board Meeting is tomorrow! 🎉

Created to ensure young people’s voices are heard and valued in local decision-making through the Pride in Place Programme, our Youth Shadow Board is officially underway!

Sixteen young people aged 11–17 have come together to form this exciting new group, bringing fresh ideas, insight, and the experiences of young people to the table.

We’re proud to be working in partnership with Leeds Youth Service WNW to create a space where young people can play a central role in leading the programme.

By the time this funding comes to an end, these young people will be aged 21–27—making their contributions today even more important for the future they’ll help to shape.

And this is not all work and no play! Each board meeting will be hosted by different youth organisations, like West Leeds Activity Centre,CATCH, Leeds or Herd Farm Residential & Activity Centre - and will include a fun activity alongside important discussions!

Good luck to everyone involved – we can’t wait to see where this journey leads 💬✨
