He’s resigned … Now what? Who will replace Wes Streeting as health secretary? And what do they need to do with the NHS

13/05/2026

I was NOT expecting that!

Behind the job title…
the uniform,
the suit,
the lanyard,
the LinkedIn headline…

There is still just… a human.

A human who worries.
Overthinks.
Gets tired.
Misses people.
Carries pressure quietly.
Pretends they’re fine sometimes.

The finance director.
The paramedic.
The CEO.
The nurse.
The lawyer.
The therapist.

Different worlds.
Same nervous system. 🧠

And often?
The things that help us most are the things we overlook because they seem too simple.

Sleep.
Connection.
Fresh air.
Boundaries.
Laughter.
Rest.
Being listened to.
Feeling safe enough to exhale.

Not everything healing has to be complicated to be powerful. ✨

I’m delighted to be a speaker at the No Ordinary Shift Emergency Care Conference this year.

This conference was originally created to celebrate the Emergency Care Forum’s 50th anniversary in 2022, and several board members are speaking at this year’s conference. We’ll be discussing big issues like corridor care, violence and incivility, as well as practical how-to sessions, leadership, and best practices.

The No Ordinary Shift conference is a great place to decompress with other people who get what you do. In previous conferences, we’ve seen nurses come together, share their experiences and wisdom and support each other. We watched people re-energise, laugh and connect across the event, leaving inspired, motivated and often with new emergency care friends.

Professor Lynda Holt, who hosts the event, is a former Chair of the ECF, and I know she is keen to create a space that supports emergency nurses not just with a strong emergency care programme, but also with the time and tools to look after themselves and each other.

We’d love to see you at the conference. It’s great to have that informal space to meet emergency members, and I know you will get just what you need from the conference. You can see the outline programme here:

See you there ❤️

Do yourself a favour…
watch this 🎥

Not because it’s trending.
But because it lands.

Kindness isn’t weakness.
It’s an elevated emotional response.

It takes awareness.
Pause.
Choice.

In a world that moves fast and reacts faster…
kindness is the quiet power move 🤍

And honestly?
We need more of it.

Happy Saturday ✨
I’m off for a long dog walk 🐾🌿
Resetting, breathing, slowing it all down.

What are you up to today?

WTF is Blue Health? 🌊

Most people don’t know.
But they should.

Because it’s simple.

It’s what being in, on, or near water does to your mind and body.

And it’s powerful.

Last night I was invited to the launch of Do Blue by Do Book Company.

Tiny books. Big impact.
Like pocket-sized sanity in a noisy world.

And right now?

We need that.

Because whether we say it out loud or not…

We’ve all been through something.

COVID wasn’t just physical.
It was psychological.
Collective.
Lingering.

And only now are we really starting to name it.

So where does Blue Health come in?

Here:

🌊 Listening to water
🌊 Sitting by the sea
🌊 Walking near a river

These aren’t luxuries.

They’re nervous system resets.

The sound of water (aka pink noise) taps into something ancient.

Low frequency.
Rhythmic.
Familiar.

Like your first ever environment.

Safe.
Held.
Regulated.

No app.
No waiting list.
No referral.

Just… water.

And the potential?

Massive.

In a world that keeps taking…

Blue Health gives something back.

If this resonates, go find Do Blue.
It’s a quiet little love letter to something we all need more of.

2191 days ago, an idea was born.

Not from a boardroom.
Not from a strategy deck.

From urgency.
From humanity.

All from my pink sofa.

Today marks 6 years of Frontline19

And if I’m honest?

It’s bittersweet.

Because behind this milestone sits a story that many don’t see:

18-hour days.

Holding space for trauma that never should have existed.

Leading an extraordinary group of volunteers giving their time, hearts, and expertise.

Speaking up in the media when it felt scary as hell.

Being inside the system while supporting those breaking within it.

At the same time…

Raising two small humans.
5 and 3 years old at the time.
Protecting vulnerable parents.
Menopause.
And carrying the emotional weight of it all.

There were moments that will never leave me.

Like the nurse who heard me on the radio…
Sitting in her car, ready to end her life.

She reached out.
She’s still here.

That’s why this matters.

Not the noise.
Not the criticism.
Not even the barriers put in place by those who should have known better.

The People.

To every donor, supporter, and fundraiser — thank you.

You fuel this mission.

To every volunteer — you are extraordinary.

Truly.

To the small team behind the scenes — you’ve held the holders, supported the supporters, and made the invisible work visible. This is yours too. 💛

To every healthcare worker we’ve supported — we see you.
We always have.

The pain.
The exhaustion.
The moral injury.

You deserve better.

Frontline19 was born in a crisis.
But let’s be clear — we are not a crisis response anymore.

We are essential.

Because until:

• Psychological support is embedded, not optional
• Prevention is prioritised, not postponed
• And those who care for us are properly cared for

We are not done.

So here’s to the next 2191 days.

We will keep showing up.
We will keep speaking up.
We will keep standing alongside the people who hold the NHS together.

Because if we don’t support the helpers… who saves us?

This is the reality of a systemic failure of nursing.

If you think it’s offensive ?

Try smelling it.

Try having this as your foot.

Try watching your father slowly rot infront of you.

Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich is run by Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and they continue to blame the staff - this is bigger than one person.

Bigger than one ward.

Bigger than one HCA, Nurse or Doctor.

There are no winners in this situation.

This is a failure of duty of care on a systemic and leadership level.

It’s chaotic and dangerous.

Perhaps the CEO Ben Travis would like to comment ?

Because all other avenues have failed and father will die from this unless someone listens to what is happening.

People are fighting for basic health care and ultimately their lives.

Please share, like and comment. We need all the help we can get.

No one should have to suffer in this way.

This isn’t policy.
It’s people.

And it’s happening on the floors of our hospitals.

We have safe limits for concerts.
We have safe limits for cars.
We have safe limits for planes.

Capacity.
Ratios.
Regulation.

Because risk matters.

But in NHS hospitals?

There is no red line.

Patients stacked in corridors.
Human beings parked like overflow.

My dad.

On a corridor.
Lights blazing 24 hours a day.
Machines beeping.
Trolleys rattling past his head.

No dignity.
No privacy.

Incontinence pads exposed.
No screens.
No protection from wandering eyes.

Bed sores missed.
Gangrene creeping in while staff sprint between impossible demands.

And the staff?

Exhausted.
Morally distressed.
Trying to deliver safe care in an environment that isn’t safe.

This is not compassionate healthcare.
It is crisis management on a loop.

Politicians had opportunities.
Funding choices were made.
And people are paying the price with their bodies.

How many deaths will it take before corridor care is recognised for what it is?

Inhumane.
Unsafe.
A failure of leadership.

Corridors are for walking.
Not for treating our sickest and most vulnerable.

We cannot normalise this.

If you work in healthcare, speak.
If you lead, act.
If you vote, remember.

Because this isn’t abstract.
It’s someone’s parent.
Someone’s partner.
Someone’s child.

And today, it was mine.
