Musical Walkabout CIC is a mobile and fun, person-centred way to engage people living with a dementia, caregivers, family and staff in the care sector through music engagement Musical Walkabout began in 2015 as a 1-2-1 way of engaging more isolated residents of care homes with music. Pre-COVID, Nina would be guided like a minstrel by a staff member room-to-room, meeting and making music with more isolated residents. To remain COVID-secure, this service is currently offered via bespoke Zoom music sessions with beautiful results. Musical Walkabout is passionate about inclusion, and since 2019 has expanded their services to deliver training in 'Music, Dementia & Wellbeing' to health and social care sector staff as well as new singing and songwriting groups 'YO Songsters' and 'Songsters Care' to people living with a young onset dementia, people in caregiving roles and health professionals. In 2021 Musical Walkabout is delivering these projects under the title 'THRIVE' with the support of Arts Council England, Folkestone & Hythe District Council, and the donations from our 2020 Crowdfunder, Raise + Reach.
