Musical Walkabout CIC is a mobile and fun, person-centred way to engage people living with a dementia, caregivers, family and staff in the care sector through music engagement Musical Walkabout began in 2015 as a 1-2-1 way of engaging more isolated residents of care homes with music. Pre-COVID, Nina would be guided like a minstrel by a staff member r

oom-to-room, meeting and making music with more isolated residents. To remain COVID-secure, this service is currently offered via bespoke Zoom music sessions with beautiful results. Musical Walkabout is passionate about inclusion, and since 2019 has expanded their services to deliver training in 'Music, Dementia & Wellbeing' to health and social care sector staff as well as new singing and songwriting groups 'YO Songsters' and 'Songsters Care' to people living with a young onset dementia, people in caregiving roles and health professionals. In 2021 Musical Walkabout is delivering these projects under the title 'THRIVE' with the support of Arts Council England, Folkestone & Hythe District Council, and the donations from our 2020 Crowdfunder, Raise + Reach. I just want to say a huge thank you again to everyone who has supported Songsters Across Kent so far — it really means the world.

We’ve now raised £9,078 from 95 amazing backers, and we’re so, so close to making this project happen at full strength across Kent.

This has also been made possible thanks to wider support from our project partners and funders like KCC during this campaign — thank you to everyone who has helped us get this far.

Now it’s down to the final push.

🎶 This is what your donations make possible. Four days left to make a difference 🙌

During this Songsters session, a resident begins dancing with a member of staff while Blue Moon fills the room. Then she comes over, pulls up a chair beside the guitar, and finishes the song with me - singing along together.

Moments like this don’t need a script. They happen when music creates a space where people feel comfortable, connected and free to join in.
