As August draws to a close, we’ve gathered together a few extra moments we haven’t managed to squeeze onto our social media pages this month.

Here’s what else residents have been getting up to…

Residents from Westlands in Rugby certainly know how to pack lots of fun into a day out!

They recently headed to the local garden centre for a spot of shopping. Jen picked out a plant for Sue's room as a thank you for a lovely friend.

Then it was time for some bargain hunting! The group saw the clothes sales rack and couldn't resist the opportunity to pick up some new T-shirts and even a few cuddly sheep for half price.

With their shopping bags filled, it was time to go to one of their favourite places, Kanko Lounge, where good food and drinks were followed by sing-alongs and dancing. Tony especially loved the atmosphere, saying how great it was to see everyone having such a good time together.

Stratford-upon-Avon is always a popular choice for a summer day out! Just recently, residents from Attleborough Grange in Nuneaton went there on the Memory Maker minibus.

They started their day with "posh coffees" and then went for a stroll along the river. Betty and Lynn enjoyed feeding the swans, cygnets and ducks, while Fay commented how eager they were to get the food! There was lots to watch on the water too, with boats and barges passing by as everyone enjoyed the views.

All that exploring soon worked up an appetite, so everyone chose fish and chips for lunch - with a little room left for ice cream afterwards! 🍦

Jane, daughter of former Sycamores resident Gladys, took to the skies for her birthday to complete a very special challenge.

Jane originally planned to mark her 70th birthday last year with a skydive in honour of her Mum and as a show of appreciation to Sycamores in Leamington Spa. Although she had to wait a little longer than planned, Jane finally took the leap last weekend, raising a fantastic £310 for the home's residents' fund.

Her donation will help Sycamores provide even more activities, events and opportunities for residents to spend time doing the things they enjoy and try new experiences.

A huge thank you from everyone at Sycamores and WCS Care for your support, Jane - and congratulations on completing your challenge! ♥️

𝙐𝙥, 𝙪𝙥 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮!

Sharon loves a good adventure.

Since moving into Mill Green in Rugby, she has been to Center Parcs, explored the Coronation Street Experience in Manchester, enjoyed theatre trips and sightseeing in London and even taken a helicopter ride over Weston-super-Mare.

So, what next? Well, Sharon decided it was time to take things to new heights - quite literally - with a hot air balloon ride!

The British weather proved to be a problem at first, with plans having to be rescheduled four times. Fifth time lucky, the conditions were finally right and Sharon took to the skies near Bristol, floating above the countryside.

Looking out into the distance and soaking up the views below, she said, "I can see the whole world from up here."

Back on solid ground, the Ballooning Access crew invited Sharon to join them for breakfast - the perfect end to an experience that was certainly worth the wait.

𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙨𝙚? 🕶️🌘

Last Wednesday night, the UK experienced its best partial solar eclipse in nearly 30 years, with over 90% of the sun being covered in Warwickshire.

Residents and staff across WCS Care were keen to see the special sight. Over at Dewar Close in Rugby, Lead Carer Nicky caught the right moment on camera as the moon overlapped the sun. 🌘

Meanwhile, everyone at Drayton Court in Nuneaton made an evening of it! With the jukebox playing, residents and staff gathered in the garden for a drink, put on their eclipse glasses and looked to the skies in anticipation.

Lifestyle Coach Tammy said: “Watching this event with everyone else was really special. We noticed the atmosphere changing as we got closer to the time. At one point, there were no birds, the skies became darker and we even spotted moths flying around.

“This isn’t an eclipse I’ll forget anytime soon. Sharing a moment like this with the residents reminds me why I love my job.” 💛

Over the past several months, residents, staff, relatives and volunteers across WCS Care’s homes have been busy bringing the best out of their outdoor spaces. There has been lots of planning, planting, pruning, potting and painting, from colourful raised beds and plants that appeal to all senses to homegrown fruit and vegetables that have made their way into meals. 🥗🍅

And while the WCS in Bloom competitions bring some friendly rivalry and plenty of fun, they’re about much more than just trophies. They’re about creating gardens that become part of everyday life in our homes.

They’re places where families can spend time outside with their loved ones, enjoying events and special occasions or simply finding a quiet spot to sit, chat and enjoy each other’s company. They’ve also given residents plenty of opportunities to get stuck into planting and growing, helping them stay active and maintain a connection with nature.

And most importantly, everyone involved creates welcoming outdoor spaces through these competitions to enjoy.

This year’s Summer in Bloom competition saw winners and runners-up across more than 10 categories, from Flowers in Full Flourish and Best Greenhouse Story: From Seedling to Sanctuary to Scent-sational Scents for the Senses, Best Hanging Baskets and lots more - including the coveted 𝗪𝗖𝗦 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺 award.

We’re pleased to reveal that 𝗪𝗖𝗦'𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 winner is……Woodside Care Village in Warwick! Castle Brook in Kenilworth finished 2nd, while Four Ways in Leamington Spa secured 3rd place in the overall competition.

Congratulations to our winners and runners-up, and a huge thank you to everyone for taking part.

We’re not finished yet, though! In an hour, we’ll be sharing our WCS Summer in Bloom video, showing the fun, creativity and effort that has gone into every home’s garden! 🎥
