On Saturday,Carolina Goodship led a field trip to Holme Park Quarry and Trowbarrow for the the WGS and Leeds Geological Association. The weather was perfect and the limestone exposures were brilliant with plenty of fossils and clear stratigraphy on display. Huge thanks to Mike Hunter from Holcim for showing us around the his quarry to see the Urswick Limestone in its full un-weathered technicolour glory and the abundance of fossils in the Woodbine Shale. At Trowbarrow, we had lunch among the orchids and then looked at several localities to study Urswick limestone geology and its ancient life. Thanks to Jason, Doug and Andy Pollack for the photos.
