Our Story

Ragtag Arts is a not for profit community arts company, based in the South Lakes. The CIC was established by Joshua Simpson and Emily Dewhurst, two artists with a combined experience of over 12 years in community arts. In 2016 we launched the Ragtag Community Scrapstore, a project to divert waste from landfill and to provide affordable and interesting creative resources for the community. We have a warehouse full of all kinds of treasures, that the community can purchase for their creative project. We also run workshops and a volunteering scheme from these premises. It's not an new idea, there are Scrapstores all across the country and we often get together to swap scrap treasures so that all of our Scrapstores are full of lots of exciting things. This Easter we moved to larger premises, and launched The Art Mill, the new home to the Scrapstore. Here we also have a coffee corner, artists studios and much bigger rooms to run workshops from.
