Eranse Bay to Haverrigg

Tuesday 16th June. Thankfully the weather held for our planned route from Eranse Bay to Haverrigg and return, so we all met up for 9.30am in the car park and after the briefing we were paddling for just after 10am. The tide had risen nicely by then, so it was only a short trolley down to meet the fast incoming sea....

River Lune – Open Boats

Saturday 13 June 2026 Rawthey Confluence to Kirkby Lonsdale (Gauge 0.592 meters) De la Soul sang – Three is the magic number. And so it was to be on this trip! 3 Canoes with 3 paddlers: Ian McCrerie (Leader); Pete Riley & Conrad Leather It could have been any of the following rivers: Ribble; Ure; Lune; Hodder; depending on the levels which the weather gods would provide....

Leven

10/06/26 A short notice trip down the River Leven was a welcome break from a busy period at work. The level was 1.05, which proved to be great, providing surf waves with still plenty of eddies left. Myself, Chris D and Rob H met at the clocktower layby after some slight confusion on which get out. Despite the new yellow lines parking at the get in, it is still manageable, not too much parking has been removed....

Killington Lake

9th June After cancelling the first session due to strong winds, the forecast was again looking a bit breezy. Woth John having to pull out of leading and the forecast being above my remit, things were not looking good, but fortunately Paul stepped in at short notice and saved the evening. Given the winds, it proved an ideal opportunity to get to grips with trim, and how to do manage it without resorting to a skeg....

VHF Refresher – Practical Session

10.06.26 Having had lots of demand for his first session Pete Riley kindly ran a repeat of his VHF Refresher session - practical off water training in Skelsmergh Community Hall. Attendance was high again, proving that this is something we are all keen to practice. Twelve of us attended with expertise levels varying from those who have no radio, those who had just bought one and were still reading the instruction manual and those who have been using one for years....

Lower Rawthey

And then there were 3 Monday 08-06-26 1.09 Metre at Brigflats at the ingress 1.08 at the egress Weather, lovely and sunny. Well Sunday the 7th was to be the day of this trip Shaw being the original coordinator and Nick being leader with me as second. Sunday didn’t happen as the only option was the Leven and deemed too high for the group of 7, so postponed until Monday 8th river predictor suggested great things so based on that there were a few options the lune was chosen to suit those travelling from afar, that evening Nick fell ill so passed the baton to me to sort out but was happy to do so, low and behold in the morning river predictor had clearly been telling porkies!...

Walney circumnavigation

Friday 22nd May After the usual WhatsApp exchanges, there were enough sea kayak leaders for the group to swell to eight, which became seven on the day. It was looking like the weather was going to play ball and allow the trip to proceed. The morning looked hazy but promising. We all met up in Earnse Bay car park on Walney at 10am for introductions and the initial safety brief from trip leader and local guide Rob....

Summer Isles – Storm Avoidance Safari

14th - 20th May 2026 A trip billed for NW Scotland. Anywhere in NW Scotland where the jet stream and Coriolis Effect would be generous enough to allow us to sample the fabulous, world beating scenery and nature. It wasn’t handed to us on a plate, but we managed to find an excellent corner of far Scotland where Zephyrus wasn’t doing his worst!...
