Spring is in the air! 🌱
Shedders are busy creating and perfecting bird box designs, David rogers has done a fantastic job experimenting with different shapes and sizes, drawing up plans for kits and creating display pieces to help other shedders build.
The box in the photos with the thin wooden piece along the bottom and extended back board has been designed with disabilities in mind, the idea being it is able to be fitted onto a post (or other suitable area) from chair height and the wooden piece allows for chair height ease of opening the front for cleaning.
The box with the mesh entrance is a bit of an experiment to see if it makes a difference on nest predation (smaller birds can still squeeze through)
If you'd like to come and have a chat about getting your garden nesting season ready this spring, whether to buy your own box or help build some for yourself or community projects, nip into the Kelso mens shed. Membership is free! We only ask a pound donation for each project you Finnish inside.
Don't know the first thing about bird boxes? We've got you covered, many members would love to chat about wildlife and we have plenty of example boxes and designs to follow.
