Six ( and a half years!) Not bad going.
Well… I/we think it’s finally time to say it. After six and a half years for me, and six years for Roddy, our time as managers of Morebattle Community Shop is coming to an end. There have been highs and lows, laughter and tears, stressful days, ridiculous days, very early mornings, late nights, countless messages and probably more conversations about toilet rolls, milk deliveries and missing invoices than any two people should ever have had to endure! 😂
Looking back, what we feel most is appreciation and thankfulness. Thank you to every single volunteer who has given their time, energy and good humour to the shop. Whether you’ve been here from the beginning or joined us along the way, you have all made a difference x
And thank you to our wonderful customers, supporters, delivery drivers, helpers and everyone who has believed in what our little shop means to the community. It is so much more than a place to buy cheese, and onions. It’s somewhere to meet neighbours, have a chat and a coffee, find out what’s happening, and feel connected to the place we call home.
And now comes the important bit… ...
Please keep supporting your community shop.
Every purchase really does make a difference. And if you’ve ever thought about volunteering but wondered whether you could spare the time, please think again. Even two hours a week can make a huge difference - to the shop, to the customers, to other volunteers and to Gwen, who can then get on with all the behind-the-scenes work that needs doing. (and there is a lot of that!)
A community shop only works because the community makes it work. So, although Roddy and I are stepping away from the day-to-day running of the shop, we really hope this isn’t the end of the story, but the beginning of its next chapter.
We wish Gwen and her team the very best of luck as they take on the role. We know the Board will support them, and our wonderful volunteers will continue to be at the heart of the shop, because they truly are vital to its success and its future.
Thank you. Pauline and Roddy x
