Pollinator & Wildlife at Cliffe Castle
Today we couldn’t do the pollinator count because of the temperature and intermittent showers.
🐝We were going to set up at the beautiful Hawthorn tree at the bottom of the large sloping field. It’s completely full of blossom and looks stunning amongst all the fresh green spring leaves of surrounding trees.
🌳The tree stands in the meadow which is left to grow all summer, not just for “No Mow May” when the wildflowers and grasses get a little longer extra footpaths will be cut into the meadow grass, giving easy access for those who want to enjoy walking through the long meadow flowers and grasses.
🐝Feeling inspired by all the different flowers already growing there, I decided to take a look at other No Mow areas. Year on year extra little pockets of wildflower areas are appearing, yet the playing fields and formal gardens look tidy and welcoming. I like this balance and hope it inspires visitors to keep on visiting, and enjoy the diversity of the park.
👍Well done to Cliffe Castle grounds team who put a lot of thought and effort into planning and development of these beautiful larger wildlife areas. Many areas are extending much further than May, into the summer, supporting pollinators, wildlife, education and wellbeing.
