πŸ›« A Look Behind the Scenes at Rolls-Royce plc Inchinnan

A massive thank you to Rolls-Royce PLC for hosting an incredible site visit for some of our cadets tonight! It’s not every day you get a front-row seat to the pinnacle of British engineering and innovation.

We were also delighted to share the experience with our colleagues from 2175 Rolls-Royce Squadron RAF Air Cadets. It was a fantastic opportunity for both squadrons to see first-hand how the subjects we study at the Squadron come to life in the real world from cutting-edge aerospace tech to world-class manufacturing.

Opportunities like these truly inspire the next generation of aviators and engineers.

Huge congratulations to our cadets for a busy and successful weekend! πŸ›«πŸ†

We had a fantastic result for 1701 (Johnstone) Squadron, with our team spreading out across the region to pick up new skills:

β€’ Up in the Air: Two of our cadets headed to 661 Volunteer Gliding Squadron, RAF Kirknewton to take to the skies for a gliding session the first for them within their cadet career. There’s nothing quite like the view from the cockpit!

β€’ Leading the Way: Meanwhile, one cadet was over at 1777 Dumbarton Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets completing their Bronze Leadership badge. A massive well done on leveling up those leadership skills!

It’s great to see our cadets making the most of every opportunity working through the progressive training syllabus. Whether it’s in the air or on the ground, the hard work is paying off!

πŸ“£ End of an Era: Change of Command at West Scotland Wing πŸ“£

After 16 years of dedicated service, we are announcing that Wing Commander J Haley is officially stepping down as Officer Commanding West Scotland Wing effective January 2026.

Since taking the helm, Wg Cdr Haley has been a cornerstone of our organisation. Over the last decade and a half, his leadership has seen the Wing grow, thrive, and navigate countless challenges. His commitment to the development of our cadets and adult volunteers has left an indelible mark on West Scotland Wing.

We offer our deepest gratitude to Wg Cdr Haley for his tireless service over these years.

As one chapter closes, another begins. We are delighted to announce that the new Officer Commanding West Scotland Wing will be Wing Commander E Crawley.

Wg Cdr Crawley brings a wealth of experience and a fresh vision to the role with a number of years experience in various different roles over the years. We are excited to see where his leadership takes us as we continue to provide the best possible experience for our cadets and Adult Volunteers.

✈️ Visit to British Airways Maintenance Hangar πŸ› οΈ

Last night, cadets from our Squadron and 2175 Rolls-Royce Squadron RAF Air Cadets had an incredible opportunity to visit the British Airways Maintenance Hangar at Glasgow Airport!

It was a fascinating and detailed look behind the scenes, allowing our cadets to see what goes into keeping commercial air travel safe and operational.

What We Saw:

β€’ Inside the Aircraft: We got up close and personal, seeing the inner workings of an aircraft.
β€’ Engineering Insights: The team gave us a fantastic understanding of the crucial maintenance and engineering that happens around the clock.

A huge thank you to the British Airways staff for hosting us and giving our cadets such valuable insight into the aviation industry's maintenance side!

1701 (Johnstone) Squadron marked a deeply significant Remembrance today. The day began with a solemn service at Abbey Cemetery, where cadets paid their respects at the memorial, followed by a dignified parade from our Squadron HQ to the Johnstone Cenotaph for another service.

For several of our cadets, this marked two momentous firsts: their inaugural parade and their first time proudly wearing their blue uniform. Every single cadet performed brilliantly, demonstrating respect and discipline throughout the day.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."

🚨 ACHIEVEMENT ALERT! 🚨

We're absolutely bursting with pride at all the incredible things our cadets have been up to over the past few weeks! Take a look at these brilliant achievements:

πŸ¦… Cdt Mills had a jam-packed and highly successful first-ever week long Scotland & Northern Ireland Region Royal Air Force Air Cadets Eagle Camp. He returned not only with his Shooting and Road Marching badges, but also earned an industry-recognised Crest Award! Way to go!

πŸ’» A huge congratulations to Cdt Sgt Craig and Cdt Craig who attended a challenging week-long Silver Cyber Course at our Wing Activity Centre and successfully achieved their Silver Cyber badge. Impressive work!

πŸ™ Finally, a special thank you to Cdt Sgt Craig, Cdt Craig, and Cdt Mills, who, along with Flt Lt McLellan and Flt Sgt Macfarlane, represented the squadron so professionally at the Rededication of the Herman Carey USAF War Memorial event organised by Howwood Community Council!

Well done to all! Your dedication and hard work truly pay off.
