Weβre back on the marshes! The ParkLife team are returning to the Dart Estuary saltmarsh to carry out work to counter erosion to this valuable habitat.
We are installing more hazel and willow brushwood bundles, coppiced from Sharpham Barton, and created with the help of local volunteers. The aim is for the bundles to slow the passage of water and trap silt and sediment, allowing for valuable saltmarsh vegetation to re-establish and for the habitat to regenerate.
Saltmarshes are even more effective at capturing and storing carbon dioxide than forests, making their preservation vital for mitigating the effects of climate change. They also provide a much needed habitat for a variety of species, including birds, fish and invertebrates!
