Young Devon is a young people's charity in the South West of England. We have been supporting young people since 1949; making Devon a better place for all young people, by reducing disadvantage and improving opportunity. Young Devon helps young people get support with their mental health and wellbeing, build life skills, get their voice heard, grow in confidence, find safe accommodation and develo

p into happy, independent adults. Young people can access Young Devon services in Exeter, Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Barnstaple, Ivybridge, Tavistock, Okehampton and Ilfracombe as well as via outreach workers in the more rurally isolated communities. Young Devon; putting young people at the heart of Devon.

You are not alone.

Whatever you’re facing right now, you don’t have to carry it by yourself. Talking to someone you trust (such as a friend, a family member, a teacher or a support worker) can make a difference.

Sometimes the hardest step is starting the conversation, but reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

In case you missed it, in March we marked the official opening of Breakwater Place, a brand-new 47-bed supported housing development for young people at risk of homelessness in Plymouth.

Delivered through a powerful partnership between Young Devon, YMCA Exeter and Plymouth City Council, this project provides safe, secure, and affordable homes for 18 - 25-year-olds who need them most.

The need has never been greater. January 2026 saw 192 young people aged between 18-25 on the Devon Home Choice social housing register for Plymouth, at high risk of homelessness and urgently in need of somewhere to live.

Breakwater Place has been made possible by a £4 million funding grant from Homes England’s SHAP (Single Homelessness Accommodation Programme).

The new homes will give many 18–25-year-olds the option to move on from Plymouth’s higher supported accommodation, foster placements, and supported living arrangements into homes focused on developing independent living skills.
