🌿 Inspiring the Next Generation of Conservationists 🌿

Last week, we welcomed 15 young people from the local area for two days of hands-on conservation experience. The students, all with a keen interest in the environment, explored a wide range of our work, including wildflower ecology, solitary bees and wasps, a local heronry, practical conservation activities, nature recovery projects, saltmarsh restoration, and farming within a protected landscape.

It was inspiring to meet so many passionate young people and to see their enthusiasm as they engaged with our team. We hope the experience has given them valuable insight into the many opportunities within the conservation sector and helped nurture their passion for protecting our natural environment for the future.

To keep updated with future work experience opportunities sign up to the monthly newsletter on the home page of our website.

What's this? A Secchi Disc!

This black and white disc is used as part of the water quality sampling we do with the Solent Seascape Project. It's used to assess water clarity. It's lowered until you can no longer see it, then the depth at which it disappears from view is used as a measurement of water clarity.

Beat the traffic and cycle to the beach...

The Salterns Way is largely traffic free and runs from Fishbourne to West Wittering - it's a great way to beat the traffic, avoid parking queues and have a day on the beach! Find out more at the cycling page on our website.

🌘Night Patrol🌘

Out on the water at sunset or after dark? Navigating by darkness requires and extra level of caution. Keeping a good lookout, maintaining a safe speed (under 8kts and mind your wash) and ensuring you have serviceable navigation lights are all essential for safety.

And keeping your passengers safe, remember - SOBER SKIPPER, SAFE RETURN

What are you looking at?

This is a Bearded Tit. Although to many observers it looks like it should have been called the Biker-moustached Tit. If you're lucky you may spot these birds in the reedbeds of the harbour, where for a few years now they've been breeding.

In the autumn and early winter, they'll venture out of the reedbed depths to feed on the reedheads. Keep your eyes peeled, and listen out for their characteristic "ping".
