‘Tormore: Explore!’ is a project, supported by Sleat Community Trust, and co-ordinated by TWIG (Tormore Woodland Initiatives Group). 'Tormore: Explore!' wants to encourage the local community, and visitors alike, to explore the natural resources the forest provides for play and leisure, learn about its wildlife and history and have improved access and facilities. The Environment Group and it's ban
d of hard-working volunteers have already improved the historic Fank area creating a picnic spot with a memorial bench. There are monthly Volunteer Days which anyone is welcome to join. A specific area of mature woodland has been set aside as a base to run sessions for children and their families and as a natural play spot. The organised sessions offer fun nature themed activities – arts and crafts, stories, games and plenty of opportunity for free play. One of the project’s long term aims is to develop a Forest School at Tormore – an innovative approach to outdoor learning and play which has been found to be extremely beneficial to children – which includes activities such as (but is not limited to) shelter building, tool skills, fire building and environmental art. The first Forest School sessions were run in 2016 and we hope to regularly provide these. All those involved in 'Tormore: Explore!' will work together to run community days celebrating the seasons at Tormore and we hope to see you at the next one!
