In June you may seen these big bales around the island!

Crofters let their fields grow and then when they have a spell of dry weather cut them down and keep the silage to feed their animals over winter. 🐄 🐑

The ones in these pictures will likely be used to feed the cows over at Culbhuirg 📍

Meet ‘Iona’ or ‘93’ as noted by its maker 🐢

Named after the Loggerhead Sea Turtle found off the coast of Iona in 2022, our clay friend has been an important part of our exhibit for a while now.

The project was created to share and carry the story of climate change as well as the strength and resilience of the creatures that are impacted.

These turtles were made to travel and carry stories with them from one person and place to the next. Perhaps Iona’s next stop could be the Azores to meet her namesake?

We had a piece of living history on the Sound of Iona yesterday.

The world’s last seagoing paddle steamer ‘The Waverly’ brought passengers from Oban to Iona yesterday afternoon.

The steamer was launched in 1946 making it 80 years old but I think we can all agree looking incredible for her age!

Sometimes we become the landing pad for the incredible Scottish Ambulance Service Air Ambulance 🚁

This service ensures that no one in Scotland suffers because medical help can’t arrive on time.

We are endlessly lucky that we have access to this essential service on Iona.

We have an incredible addition to the shop this year: Hand Made on Iona from Iona Wood - Coffee and Sugar Spoons!

Due to some storm damage we had to take back one of the trees in the Rookery - all birds and their nests were completely fine and are still as noisy as ever! 🐦‍⬛

Behind the scenes the incredible has been working to produce beautiful spoons using the wood 🌳

Available in the shop: a truly one of a kind item to take home
