Hi Everyone

As we start to notice a slight chill in the air, we know it’s that time of year again, and the 26/27 sessions of Ayrshire Fly Dressers are about to start!

We recommence our fly tying evenings from Monday 7th September, from 7pm at The Townend Centre, Dreghorn. I look forward to seeing members old and new.

As always, it costs £5 to join for the year, and £2 per meeting. Tea, coffee and biscuits are always available.

As per my last post, the process for paying for membership of the Fly Dressers Guild has changed, and can no longer be paid through the Branch. If any members are still having issues with that, or haven’t received the link to the new app, please let me know and I’ll do all I can to help.

If you fancy having a go at fly tying, why not come along? There’s always loads of advice available, and we have some basic materials to help get you started. All welcome, but under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Thanks

Keith

** Important Announcement **

Hi Everyone

The Ayrshire Fly Dressers Guild are an official branch of The Fly Dressers Guild, which is effectively our parent organisation.

Membership of The Fly Dressers Guild is optional, so not all members of Ayrshire Fly Dressers belong to The Fly Dressers Guild.

For those of us that do, there are some important changes coming, to the way we pay for our membership.

The Fly Dressers Guild has had to make these changes to ensure that they remain financially viable, and able to continue to provide the services to members that they currently do.

From 1st September 2026, membership can only be paid via the Club Mate app. We will no longer be able to submit renewal memberships on member’s behalf, via the club.

Membership will now cost £25 per year. Although this is an increase, I don’t think the subs have increased at all, since I joined about 14 years ago. It’s now necessary to make what I hope you’ll agree is a reasonable increase in fees, in order to protect the future of the Fly Dressers Guild. Please continue to give them your support.

If you currently pay your FDG membership renewal by Standing Order, or Direct Debit, please cancel that immediately.

All members will receive an email directly from the FDG, explaining the changes, and taking you through the new process for renewing your membership.

If you haven’t yet received an email, your email address has changed, or you just have some questions, please contact me via the page, and I’ll do all I can to help.

The Ayrshire Fly Dressers club will run as usual from the first Monday in September. These changes only impact those who are members of the Fly Dressers Guild.

I hope everyone is having a good summer, and I look forward to seeing you in September.

Thanks

Keith

I’m delighted to announce that Colin from Fly Tying Scotland, will be joining us on Monday 23rd February, for a sale of materials night.

Colin stocks a huge range of high quality materials at excellent prices, so this is sure to be a good night for fly tyers.

Non members welcome. £2 at the door, including tea / coffee & biscuits.

Very sad news. Condolences to all of Graham’s family and friends, from all at Ayrshire Fly Dressers.

It is with great sadness that we have to say "goodbye" to one of the great competitors from New Haylie fly fishers, the serial winners of the John Watts trophy . Graham Steele was a stalwart of the team and a true sportsman, always up for a laugh, willing to share knowledge and a delight to share a boat with. Our thoughts go out to his family and team members.

Happy Hogmanay and all the very best for 2026 to all members and supporters of Ayrshire Fly Dressers. Have a good one!

Hi Everyone

Just some dates for your diary.

Semperfli are returning to Geilsland Estate in Beith over the weekend of 8th and 9th November.

I know some members attended this event the last time, and the feedback was excellent. Lots of materials available for sale, and many demos from top fly tyers.

It would be great if we could try and support this event.

Details of how to register are in my previous post.

Thanks.
