A heartfelt thank you to the East Anglian Sailing Trust for giving us such a wonderful day out on the River Deben last week.

For those living with sight loss, opportunities like this are so much more than just a day on the water.

For our members, feeling the wind in their faces, hearing the sails fill, listening to the sounds of the river, and sharing the experience with friends, created a real sense of freedom and connection.

After a few false starts and cancellations due to the weather in the past, we were especially fortunate to enjoy glorious sunshine and perfect sailing weather, making the day even more memorable.

A special mention to our volunteers who helped on the day and made the whole thing possible.

The photos below, kindly taken by Tony, one of newest volunteers, really capture the atmosphere of the day.

There is a group photo with everyone smiling and wearing life jackets ready to set sail. They are standing with a Suffolk Sight banner. Many are also wearing sun hats and caps.

The other photos show the peaceful sailing scene on open water, there are smiles on everyone's faces and they look relaxed, The sun is shining, there are different sized boats and also a dinghy.

Happy Volunteers' Week!

We celebrate the incredible people who generously give their time, skills, and compassion to support people living with sight loss.

Whether they're providing companionship, helping at events, offering practical support, fundraising, or raising awareness in their communities, our volunteers make a real difference every single day.

Your dedication helps create a more inclusive world where people with sight loss can live independently, confidently, and connected to their communities.

To all our volunteers, thank you for your kindness, commitment, and the positive impact you make. We simply couldn't do it without you đź’›

On the left side of the path there is a large fallen tree trunk that has been cut, adding a natural woodland feature to the scene.

We wanted to share another special moment from the Blindfold Bowls Charity event at Hollesley Bowls Club

Melissa, one of our members, was very keen to have a go and with a little bit of practice, she was hooked!

Video shows Melissa crouching down and bowling. The wood gently rolls towards the jack which is just a short distance away.
It is a lovely sunny evening, and the club has very neatly kept greens. There is a very relaxed atmosphere and everyone is supporting Melissa.

A huge thank you to everyone at Hollesley Bowls Club for hosting such a fantastic Blindfold Bowls charity event in support of Suffolk Sight.

We’re incredibly grateful to announce that together, with money taken on the night and a very generous donation, we raised an amazing £750!

Thank you to all the players, volunteers, supporters, and everyone who came along to make the evening such a success. From the fun on the green, to the bar, and not forgetting the food from Thegoatguysfoodtruck, it was a brilliant community event.

Your generosity and support will help make a real difference to people living with sight loss across Suffolk.

❓Did you know that almost 32,000 people were estimated to be living with sight loss in Suffolk in 2023?
❓Nationally, one person every six minutes begins to lose their sight.

All health and social care services are required to meet people’s needs for accessible information and care if they have a disability or sensory impairment.

👉Yet findings from our Your Care, Your Way campaign show these needs are still not being met consistently: https://healthwatchsuffolk.co.uk/your-care-your-way/visurvey/
