At our recent Branch AGM, we were proud to vote to affiliate to the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and to make a £1,050 donation to the Cuba Vive Appeal 🤝🇨🇺🩺

We believe the United States blockade is an act of mass punishment against the Cuban people and a violation of their sovereignty. As trade unionists, we have a duty to stand in solidarity with workers everywhere and to oppose imperialist aggression wherever it occurs.

Cuba has a long and proud history of internationalism—sending medics, and teachers to communities in need across the globe. Now, it falls to us in Britain to return that solidarity. By raising funds, opposing the blockade, and supporting Cuba’s right to feed its people, power its homes, and keep its hospitals and schools open, we can make a real difference.

Our donation will fund three complete medical kits for use in Cuban hospitals and clinics. If your trade union branch is able to support Cuba too, we’d love to hear from you. Follow the link below to donate, or get in touch and we’ll happily share our branch motion with you.

Solidarity Knows No Borders 🇵🇸🚩

In August members of our union branch proudly joined the Pro-Palestine protest in Ipswich, gathering at Ipswich Train Station to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine.

As trade unionists, we know that an injury to one is an injury to all. Internationalism is not just a slogan — it’s a core part of our fight for justice. Whether on the picket line or in the streets, we stand with workers and oppressed communities everywhere.

We believe that solidarity is action, and showing up for Palestine is part of our broader commitment to human rights, peace, and dignity for all.

From Ipswich to Gaza — workers united will never be defeated. 💪🚩

Let’s continue to build a union that’s active in our community and connected to global struggles. Together, we are stronger.

Congratulations to our friends in hospitality 💪Hopefully with more wins to come in the future 🚩

🚩"Not a table waited, nor a drink served" could become the motto of the day at this rate 🚩

Solidarity to our comrades in East Anglia - hospitality is the stomping ground of management with an ego and so power to the workers to resist these potentially spurious investigations!

🚨Breaking.

Norwich PizzaExpress members under attack!

After raising a legitimate collective grievance on bullying and other issues, members are being hauled through potentially spurious investigations.

Our members won’t be intimidated.

🚩We were honoured to host Steve Marsling at our August meeting!🚩

Steve, a Leiston (Suffolk) local, was one of the brave volunteers who risked everything to fight apartheid in 1970s South Africa. His incredible story—and that of his comrades—is now an award-winning film: Oliver Tambo’s London Recruits 🎥🏆

Our branch proudly supported the film’s production, and we’re thrilled to see it making waves at festivals worldwide! 🎬✨

🚩Members of the 1860 branch as well as the Unite community branch came together to celebrate and stand alongside the Ipswich community for the 2025 May Day march and day events in Alexandra Park.🚩

This year's march was in the name of peace and solidarity, as such we saw our friends from the Ipswich Palestine Solidarity Campaign who were given the spotlight for the march to voice their dismay and resistance against our government's continued involvement and military support for a state embroiled in war crimes and enforced starvation allegations against the people and workers of Gaza by the Israeli military. As well as PSC we stood aside many other communities varying from members of the trans community as well as our friends in ‘disabled people against cuts’ who are also stepping up and getting organised.

We had the opportunity to speak with many members of the LE/1860 branch who were unaware that the branch had been revived. If you were also unaware, check your membership portal to see when and where your next meeting is!

🚩Unite LE/1860 attendance at the DPAC Ipswich protest (19th of April 2025) 🚩

Members of the Suffolk and Essex branch attended the ‘disabled people against cuts’ protest in Ipswich on the April 19th to show our solidarity with those being targeted by the recent proposed cuts led by the current government.

In line with the words of DPAC we also believe in “welfare not warfare” and see the direct correlation between the cuts to PIP and the increased funding to the military-industrial complex. We stand by our disabled comrades and will continue to apply pressure against our local politicians while standing side by side with our friends and family who are affected by these cuts.

If you are a member of Unite and want to get organised and involved check your membership portal to see when and where your next meeting is!
