Five Years of Friendship: Celebrating Kesgrave Community Chinwag!
Every month, our doors open to a room filled with laughter, shared stories, the gentle hum of conversation, and the tapping of feet to live music.

It’s a space where strangers become acquaintances, and acquaintances become dear friends. Whether it’s catching up over a cup of tea or discovering a neighbour’s fascinating life story, every "Chinwag" is a celebration of our local community spirit.

This month, however, felt a little extra special. Today marked our 5th Birthday, and what a five years it has been!

Seeing so many familiar faces today - along with some lovely new ones - gathered to mark this milestone reminded us exactly why we started this journey half a decade ago.

We enjoyed music that had us humming along, delicious treats, and most importantly, the irreplaceable company of our wonderful guests.

To everyone who joined us today: Thank you for bringing your stories, your smiles, and your friendship. You are the heartbeat of the Chinwag. Whether you’ve been coming since day one or joined us for the very first time today, you helped make our 5th Birthday an afternoon we won’t soon forget.

As we look back on five years of memories, we are already looking forward to many more … Here’s to the next chapter of our Kesgrave Community Chinwag!

We were recently touched by a beautiful sentiment from one of our volunteers, who shared why she keeps coming back:
"I love coming to help at Chinwag. It’s not just about "doing something useful" - though that's important to me - and it’s not just about being part of a fantastic team. It’s that I’ve made genuine new friends here. It’s become one of the highlights of each month for me."

That, right there, is the true magic of Chinwag. When we set out to create this group, we hoped to bring people together, but we are constantly humbled to see how that sense of community extends to the very people who make it happen. Our volunteers aren't just giving their time; they are gaining a network, a support system, and a circle of friends.

To our volunteers: thank you. Thank you for your early starts, your warm smiles, your patience, and your dedication. You make Chinwag more than just a gathering; you make it a family.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be part of this team - even if it’s just to help out occasionally at events - we’d love to have you. As our volunteers will tell you, you’ll walk away with much more than you give.

We have a "bank" of volunteers here at KWMCC who we call upon to help at various events/ activities/ info sharing days, etc. If you'd like to find out more, please email: [email protected] or pop in to the centre to speak to us!

Can you solve the case before time runs out?🔍

Join us on Sunday 4th October 2026 for The Right Note For Murder, an interactive murder mystery radio play where you'll become part of the investigation.

If you love a classic whodunit and fancy yourself as the next Sherlock Holmes, this is the event for you. Listen carefully for clues, uncover inconsistencies in witness statements, and work together with your team to solve the mystery before the final reveal.

This is an immersive experience with Red House Murder Mysteries, where every clue counts, and every team has the chance to crack the case!

Can you believe it? Time flies when you’re having fun (and chatting, of course)! We are absolutely thrilled to announce that next week marks a very special milestone for us: our Kesgrave Community Chinwag is turning FIVE!

It feels like just yesterday we opened our doors to bring our wonderful 60yrs+ community together for a natter, a cuppa, and some much-needed connection. Over the last 5 years, we’ve shared countless stories, supported one another, made new friends, and built a space that we are truly proud of. None of this would have been possible without you - our amazing regulars and our welcoming newcomers.

We think, really, we have a party every month! But at our 17th July Chinwag – next Friday – we’ll be celebrating this 5th Birthday milestone together.

Dress to Impress ...
We know how much this community loves a bit of flair, so party dress is absolutely welcomed! Whether you want to dig out your finest sparkly outfit, wear your favourite festive hat, or simply dress in your most comfortable party gear, we want to see you shining.

And don’t worry - as ever, there will be plenty of opportunities to get in the photos! We’ll be capturing all the smiles, the laughter, and the birthday fun, so come camera-ready to strike a pose!

A massive thank you to Andy Ottley for bringing Elvis into our Chinwag on Friday ... Our guests were singing along to "Suspicious Minds," swooning during "Can't Help Falling in Love," and laughing as Andy playfully engaged with the crowd - a super entertainer who knows exactly how to work a room – reading our crowd, lifting spirits and making people smile!

We had the pleasure of hosting 160 wonderful guests for our monthly Chinwag, and let’s just say - the building was rocking. It was an afternoon filled with friendship, laughter, plenty of cuppas and cakes!

To our amazing volunteers: None of this would be possible without you. Hosting 160 guests is no small feat! Thank you for the endless trays of tea, the perfectly sliced cake, the warm welcomes at the door, and for creating the kind of environment where people feel seen, heard, and cherished.

To our guests: Thank you for coming, for singing along, and for bringing your wonderful energy to the room. We’ll look forward to seeing you all again next time! (Friday 17th July - bookings are now open!)

This coming Friday, 20th March, we're looking forward to welcoming all our Chinwag'ers!

Doors open at 1:30pm as usual; 2pm-4pm for our social afternoon of musical entertainment, drinks, refreshments and super company!

Lori & Gray and the Irish Hoolie Band will be performing live Irish music for all to enjoy.
