Suffolk User Forum

Suffolk User Forum Suffolk User Forum is a mental health charity, sharing information, inspiration & open conversations about emotional wellbeing & mental health.

We aim to make this page a safe place for debate and conversation about mental health, by talking and sharing information and news about local mental mental health services and support for emotional wellbeing. This page is set up and monitored by Suffolk User Forum, we understand that sometimes we may post or share items and discussions that may be of a sensitive nature. If we do, we are

sharing to support greater understanding of emotional distress and we try to be mindful to alert you to any posts by using CW=Content warning where a post may contain distressing information e.g. mention of self harm of su***de. SUF has a wide membership of people who are interested in mental health in Suffolk and who have used a range of different mental health and emotional wellbeing services. We are supporting the growth of a wide network of people across the county of Suffolk who wish to support a changing culture around mental health, a more open and inclusive understanding that the experience of emotional and mental distress is a human response that can be experienced by any one of us. We work to promote and strengthen the peoples voice for positive change, independence, human rights, choice and control. We value peoples support and welcome those who wish to support our work to become partners with us by becoming a member. We work to promoting peoples rights, choices & voices through all of our work and through our Advocacy Service. We value our members and supporters, as experts in an equal partnership. We support expanding wellbeing networks & work to provide people with reliable information. To deliver on these commitments we work together with you as partners to gather, record and collate your experiences of mental health service provision in Suffolk and present the results with recommendations or commendations to service providers and commissioners. We work with you and take your ideas for developments in local mental health care, promoting a better better understanding of how services can meet your needs more effectively. We are currently working to ensure that Suffolk has an effective County wide su***de prevention strategy that supports all partners in Suffolk to have an improved understanding of the issues around su***de and a shared vision to deliver zero su***de in Suffolk.

A big thank you to everyone who came along to yesterday's Stepping Forward event in Bury St Edmunds library. It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout, and we really valued the thoughtful conversations about the proposed 24/7 neighbourhood mental health centres in Suffolk.

We’re holding another event on this topic on Thursday, 18 June at Ipswich Library. If you’d like to hear more about the proposals and share your views on the design and direction of the 24/7 neighbourhood mental health centres, you can book your free place here - https://buff.ly/NMRDxf0

After the events, we will compile all feedback into a You Said report and share it with commissioners, members, and everyone who took part.

Thank you to everyone who joined James at an Open Space session in libraries across Suffolk to learn about Get Heart Smart, our Healthy Together initiative supporting people to make small, achievable changes for better heart health.

We were delighted to speak to more than 100 people and have already received some fantastic feedback. One person told us: "I have not had my blood pressure checked for years, nor my cholesterol. I will now book in for a health check. Thank you for telling me about all this."

📢We are recruiting a Healthy Together Peer Support Worker (PSW) to provide time-limited emotional and practical peer support to people living with severe mental illness (SMI) following their SMI Annual Health Check. Our team is already making a significant difference to the lives of people living with severe mental illnesses (SMI - Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Psychosis).

Using lived experience of recovery, you will build trusting, non-judgemental relationships, offer hope, and support people to achieve their own health and wellbeing goals.

We are committed to investing in your development, including building your knowledge and skills in co-production and self-advocacy approaches. You will have lived experience of mental ill health and sustained recovery, or experience as a family member/parent carer, and use that journey to support and inspire others.

If this role sounds right for you, please visit https://buff.ly/OAXBkGm for more detailed information about the position, including the job description, person specification, and details of how to apply.

If you would like to have an informal chat about the role, please call Chloe Newman, Healthy Together Manager on 01473 907087.
