How many of you knew the name of our Sonar? She is called Kip. This is in memory of one of the founding trustees of the Project - Johnty Dickinson. To make sure everyone recognises her on the water, we stuck the name on her bow today.

We also spent much of the day preparing her for going on the water - cleaning and polishing the topsides, so she is looking good and all ready for the season. Thanks to the Royal Harwich Yacht Club and particularly the Ajax fleet team for their help in getting the mast up and launching her on their trolleys.

Following on from the naming ceremony last week, we have now launched Turnstone ready for our training sessions and then the start of the season in May. Thanks to Woolverstone Marina and Lodge Park for preparing our berth for us and thanks again to everyone who supported us with the funding for the new boat.

I wonder if this would work for a Hansa 3.03? Happy first of the month to all.

I wonder if this would work for a Hansa 3.03? Happy first of the month to all.

Despite being engineless and steeped in the traditional skills, here at Sea-Change Sailing Trust we are not afraid to experiment with modern developments in order to get the best out of the barge. We’ve been trailing some new leeboards of an unconventional design and are pretty pleased with the results.

So now that our Man Overboard mannikin from Ruth Lee Ltd has been for their first swim, we felt that it was time they had a name. One suggestion which we liked was to call them 'Rosie' as in Rosie Lee - a cup of tea .... What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Our first training session of the year - a 'person overboard' refresher course for all our safety boat crews. A good day and really helped by our new Ruth Lee Ltd man overboard mannikin. This made safety boat crews aware of the issues in recovering someone from the water. With this mannikin we can simulate someone floating horizontally or vertically. With the recovery cradle we spent a lot of time simulating a recovery situation and discussing all the issues around it.

Thanks also to Morgan Marine for the great Highfield rescue RIBs which we use for every session.
