How far can a man push himself before something finally gives?
For Nick, providing for his family meant working harder, earning more and carrying on. Even when his body was giving him some very serious warnings, stopping didn't feel like an option.
Seizures. Dangerously high blood pressure. Refused life insurance at just 30.
His thinking at the time?
“I’ll die. You get money. We’re all good.”
That's where this week's conversation starts.
A quick note about the video itself: it might look slightly different to what we normally post on Facebook. The platform currently seems to hate pretty much every format we give it, so we're trying something new.
We could spend hours every week chopping, resizing and reformatting videos purely to keep Facebook happy, but we'd rather use those charity resources actually helping men. Let us know how this version looks your end.
Nick joins MANUP? CEO Dan to talk about burnout, becoming a dad, the pressure to provide and what happened when years of pushing himself finally caught up with him.
When does resilience become self-destruction?
And how many men are doing exactly the same thing without realising it?
Have you ever pushed yourself too far because you felt you had to provide, perform or simply keep going?
Tell us in the comments.
If you know a man who needs to hear this, share it with him.
MANUP? is a men's mental health charity. We run free online sessions for men every Thursday, including sessions with qualified therapists.
We've also got a huge library of videos featuring men speaking honestly to other men about their mental health, what they've experienced and what has actually helped them.
