Cadets from our Kirkwall & Stromness recently received a visit from the Lord Lieutenant of Orkney, Elaine Grieve.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday 27 May, saw the Lord Lieutenant appoint her new Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet, which went to Bdr Wolanski. Bdr Wolanski has been with the Army Cadets in since March 2022 and in that time has steadily advanced through his Star Levels to achieve 2 Star and is close to completing his 3 Star.

Bdr Wolanski has also attended the Junior Cadet Instructor Cadre earlier in the year and has proved himself to be an able instructor, mentoring younger cadets through their own progression. In addition he has attended a St John’s Ambulance Youth First Aid course and the Senior Cadet Healthy Minds course, which covers Mental Health Awareness. He has recently completed his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s award. For the next 12 months Bdr Wolanski will assist the Lord Lieutenant civic duties in their capacity as His Majesty The King’s representative to the Orkney Isles.

The Lord Lieutenant took the time to inspect the cadets on parade and presented trophies and certificates to cadets who had excelled or passed relevant training. Sergeant Maclean was presented with the shield for best attendance in the previous year and shooting trophies went to Cdts Lyon and Henning. Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s certificates were presented to Sgt Maclean and Bdr Wolanski whilst Cdts Brookman and Summers were promoted to LBdr and also received their 1 Star certificates. Basic Star certificates were presented to Cdts Henning, Kilpatrick and Spence.

WO2 Coltherd received a very well deserved Deputy Commander Cadet’s Commendation for outstanding service to the Army Cadets.

As Volunteers Week comes to a close, we have some important news about one of our volunteers.

Congratulations to Sgt Millar, from Elgin Detachment, who received the inaugural Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association' Cadet Adults Recognition Award (CARA) for the Battalion.🏆

The awards ceremony, held on Thursday evening at Aberdeen Town House, saw Sgt Millar share the night with another equally deserving volunteers from each Army, Sea and Air Cadet Unit in HRFCA's administrative area.

The CARAs are cadet led meaning that every single recipient was nominated by cadets from their unit. There can be no greater recognition than being acknowledged by the young people whose lives you help shape and inspire every day.

Congratulations once again 🎉
