Today marks the start of , with this year’s theme focused on building Carer Friendly Communities.

Carer Friendly Communities are places, services, groups, and spaces where unpaid Carers are recognised, understood, and valued. By making support part of everyday life, these communities help Carers access the opportunities, understanding, and practical support they need.

Throughout June, a range of events and activities will take place across Highland to celebrate and support Carers. Find out what’s happening near you: https://connectingcarers.org.uk/activities-events/

Together, we can create communities where Carers feel supported in every aspect of their lives. By adding your name today, you'll be joining a movement to strengthen support for Carers across Highland and beyond: https://www.carersweek.org/

At the heart of what we do is supporting Young Carers by giving them the opportunity to take a break from their caring responsibilities, relax, and enjoy new experiences.

Recently, we had a fantastic trip to Hollywood Bowl, filled with laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of great memories along the way.

Activities like these give Young Carers the opportunity to switch off from day-to-day pressures, spend time with friends, and simply have fun being young people. Seeing everyone supporting one another and enjoying themselves throughout the day was a lovely reminder of just how important these breaks are.

If you’d like to register for our upcoming summer activities, you can find more information here: https://forms.office.com/e/xmSpyNRCHZ

As we celebrate the first day of , we want to say a huge thank you to every one of our incredible volunteers for the time, care, and support you give to Carers across our community.

Last week, our Counsellors joined our Volunteer & Short Breaks Coordinator at the beautiful Kingsmills Hotel for one of our quarterly get-togethers, where we were delighted to welcome a record attendance of 7 Counsellors, including 3 qualified counsellors and 4 student counsellors currently on placement with us from University of the Highlands and Islands and Murray College.

The evening was filled with open discussions, sharing good practice, relevant counselling and Carers support information, planning future training opportunities, and relaxed “get to know you” chats. Of course, there were also plenty of hot and cold drinks and sandwiches enjoyed along the way.

We are absolutely delighted with this fantastic turnout and feel so grateful to have such a passionate, supportive, and dedicated team of volunteers and counsellors working alongside us.

Thank you for everything you do, this Volunteers’ Week and every week.
