Last month, we had the pleasure of spending time with PKAVS Young Carers , sharing experiences and enjoying some fun activities together.

We kicked things off at Cakes and Shakes in Inverness, where everyone enjoyed ice cream, milkshakes and waffles while getting to know one another. It was a lovely opportunity for Young Carers from both organisations to chat about their caring roles and learn more about the support available to them.

The fun continued on our second evening with a trip to Hollywood Bowl! With mixed teams, plenty of friendly competition and a lovely dinner to finish off the night, it was a great way to build new friendships and make memories together.

It was also a valuable opportunity for our Young Carer teams to connect, exchange ideas and learn more about the work we each do. It was lovely to bring everyone together, and we’re already looking forward to returning the visit and heading down to PKAVS in the new year!

Yesterday, we enjoyed a wonderful Inverness Wellbeing Day, giving Carers the chance to step away from their day-to-day routines and enjoy a little time for themselves.

The day was filled with relaxing wellbeing sessions, a lovely lunch and a brilliant autumnal table decoration workshop led by florist Kay Haspell.

These days are about more than just taking a break. They’re also a chance to meet other Carers, share experiences and spend time with people who truly understand what it means to care for someone.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special! Take a look at some of the beautiful decorations made during the workshop, we think you’ll agree they’re lovely!

Our next Wellbeing Day is in Nairn on Thursday 12th November, and there are only a few spaces left! Book your place here: https://connectingcarers.org.uk/event/wellbeing-day-nairn/

Today, our team attended the Nairn & Nairnshire Community Networking Event, bringing together local community members, groups, organisations, practitioners and partners to share knowledge, build connections and discover opportunities to work together.

It was a great opportunity to get out into the local community, chat with people about the support available through Connecting Carers and help Carers find out more about the services that could make a difference to them.

Whether it’s sharing information about our services, answering questions or helping people take the next step towards support, getting out into our communities helps us reach more Carers and make sure they know what’s available to them.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to speak with us today!

We’re throwing it back to this summer’s amazing Scottish Young Carers Festival at Dalguise!

From the moment we arrived, there was so much to look forward to. Our Young Carers enjoyed a jam-packed programme of activities, including abseiling, ziplining, rock climbing, therapet sessions, bonfire nights, dancing to live rock bands and so much more! We even had a special evening with Scottish actress and DJ Karen Dunbar!

One of our favourite moments was giving our Young Carers Connecting Carers t-shirts and fabric pens to collect names and messages from other festivalgoers. It quickly caught on, with Young Carers from across the festival joining in and turning it into a brilliant way to make memories.

But the festival was about so much more than the activities. Seeing new friendships blossom between Young Carers from different organisations, sharing experiences and spending time with people who understand their caring roles made the whole experience even more special.

The festival brings Young Carers from across Scotland together, giving them the chance to take a well-deserved break, connect with others and simply be young people.

We had the best time and, honestly, didn’t want the fun to end! Roll on next year!

Have you heard of the 'How Carer Aware Are You?' podcast?

The most recent episode is 'Plan for Life: How grief, loss and sorry are part of the caring journey'.

Grief is often associated with death, but for many unpaid carers experiences of loss can begin long before bereavement. In this episode of How Carer Aware Are You?, Rachel Tainsh is joined by Clare Tucker from the Bereavement Education Programme and Michelle Morrison and Maureen Phillip from PAMIS to explore how grief, loss and sorrow can be woven throughout the caring journey.

If you haven’t had a chance to tune in yet, there are now eight episodes available to explore: https://neshowcarerawareareyou.podbean.com/

Earlier this month, we were delighted to be part of the North Highland Women's Wellness Hub Wellbeing Festival in Wick, Caithness.

The festival brought together local wellbeing organisations, crafts and makers, food stalls and, most importantly, people from across the community for a day of connection, conversation and wellbeing.

It was lovely to catch up with familiar faces and chat with people who were discovering our support for the first time. We also enjoyed the chance to hear what matters to people in the local community and share more about the support available to Carers across Highland.

Events like this are such an important part of bringing people together. They give local organisations the opportunity to connect with people, share what support is available and learn more about the people and communities they serve. It’s also a great way to discover the many groups, services, businesses and individuals helping to make our local communities stronger.

A big thank you to the North Highland Women’s Wellness Hub for inviting us and for bringing so many local people and organisations together.

We’re always pleased to be out in our communities, meeting people and making sure Carers know we’re here to support them.
