Just a quick heads up that we still have some spaces free for the LGBTIQ+ beginners skateboarding session this Friday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Hilton Village Mall.

If you had tried to access a ticket yesterday, but found that the event had sold out, we had some one purposefully take the last few tickets to stop others and who had no intention of attending. This person has been blocked and the tickets re-released. We will continue to monitor ticket bookings, right up until the day.

Like all the other free events that we have put on for various groups, we want this to be a fun and relaxing event where people can learn to skateboard in a judgement free environment.

In support, there will be allies to the LGBTIQ+ community in attendance on the night, who want everyone taking part to feel safe.

If you are a member of the LGBTQI+ community and have always wanted to learn to skateboard, we have teamed up with LEAP Sports to offer a free 2 hour coaching session with Skateboard GB certified instructors.

The coaching will be hosted at Hilton Village Mall on Friday 27th June from 6:30pm to 8:30pm with tickets only available through the TicketSource website. We will provide boards and equipment, so all you need to do is turn up on the day.

This post is rubbish. Or rather, it’s about rubbish.

This is a carrier bag full of empty plastic bottles, food containers, drinks cans, etc, that one of the skateboarders collected whilst at Inshes Skatepark. There was also numerous glass bottles left lying around too - it goes without saying how worrying that is.

We want to just remind those who use the skatepark, or bring their family along, to help keep the area clear of rubbish.

None of the skateparks across Inverness are run or maintained by The Highland Council. We rely on club members and volunteers to help keep the parks tidy.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone who joined us today for the skatejam. On behalf of ourselves and Inverness Open Arts, we hope you all had a good time and enjoyed the day.

We’re going to take a short break (our coaches need a bit of rest and relaxation) and look at what our next steps are, but please do keep an eye on the page for any updates.

This Saturday, we'll be hosting a skatejam at Hilton Village Mall from 11am to 1pm.

For those who are like "What's a skatejam?!" - it's similar to our normal Saturday open sessions, except we'll have music, food and some prizes, with Numeral Skateboard Co. very kindly donating a couple of boards for us to giveaway 😍

For those who are concerned that this is the end of the Hilton Mall Sessions, please don't worry as we're not closing our doors, we're just celebrating the end of the 'Skate and Create' project.

This Saturday (29th March) is the final 'create' session for the Skate and Create project with Inverness Openarts: from 11am to 1pm up in the Hilton Community Centre.

A temporary graffiti wall will be made using plywood so those wanting to learn some basic spray painting techniques will have access to indoor safe spray paints and paint pens. Spaces are limited to 15 people, so it will need to be first come, first served.

On Friday 28th March, our final night of Skate and Create before the skatejam on Saturday morning, we’re hosting a film night at Hilton Community Centre, starting at 6:30pm.

We’ll be showing the new short film ‘City in Crisis’ by Louis O’Flynn, that explores the decline of Dublin through the eyes of a skateboarder.

We’ll also be showing a series of short films from The Ben Raemers Foundation called the ‘SMiLe Interviews’, featuring legendary skaters, like Scotland’s own John Rattray, along with Brian Anderson, Chris Pulman, Elissa Steamer and others.

People can feel free to come and go as they please as we’ll still be offering skateboarding in the mall.

Please note: the subject matter in the films can be of a mature nature so parental guidance is advised for younger viewers.

A handful of images taken at last weekend's 'Create' session with Inverness Openarts:

The used boards were donated by both IWSC and local skaters and will be handed out to the artists at the end of the project as a keepsake.

The project has two more weekends to go, finishing with a skatejam on the 29th March.

Come along to Hilton tonight to tell us what you have liked about the 'Skate and Create' project, and how you would like things to develop in the future!

We also want your views for a short film, and will be looking to record some interviews in our final week.

13/03/2025

Thanks to everyone who turned up tonight to skate, scoot and use the mini ramp. Probably one of our busiest nights yet.

Hope everyone had fun. Our coaches are now going for a well earned rest 😅

It's Saturday 8th March tomorrow, which means the creative teams are back on again tomorrow with support from Inverness Openarts: and The Inverness Darkroom. We'll be starting the skateboarding in the mall at 11am and the creative sessions taking place upstairs in the Hilton Community Centre.

Everything is free, so all people need to do is simply show up and take part. For the skateboarding, there's no need to book and we'll supply the boards, helmets and pads for the length of the session.

Look forward to seeing you all there 😁
