Crocus Highland Crocus Child and Young Person Bereavement Support Information page The death of a close relative is a time of great sadness for a family.

For children this can be a confusing and distressing time. There may be unanswered questions about what has happened and the grief of other family members may cause added stress making it hard for the child to talk about their feelings. We are here to help, support and manage a bereaved child.

This was a wonderful day, networking and meeting the community of Dunvegan. Looking forward to the next one on 21st May, will we see you there?

Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations (SLCVO) is launching a new Community Outreach Hub initiative, with the first event set to take place on Thursday 23 April in Dunvegan Community Hall, continuing across the Skye and Lochalsh region over the next 2 years.

Offering improved access to essential health, wellbeing, welfare and social care services across the region, the Community Outreach Hub initiative responds directly to challenges faced by rural communities: - including long travel distances, digital exclusion, fragmented services and persistent stigma around seeking help.

Each monthly hub event will take place within local community halls, providing a welcoming space, refreshments and opportunities for local people to access a wide range of advice, support and guidance including: - welfare and benefits information, costofliving support, financial guidance, counselling, mental health outreach, bereavement services, family support, children’s activities, and more.

The monthly hubs will rotate across the Skye and Lochalsh area with sessions taking place in Dunvegan (April to June), Lochalsh (July to September), and across Staffin, Portree, Broadford and Sleat (October and March).
More than 20 Third Sector organisations are committed to work together on delivery of the hub events including: - Skye & Lochalsh Citizens Advice Bureau Counselling Care Skye & Lochalsh Rag Tag n Textile Skye and Lochalsh Mental Health AssociationConnecting Carers Befrienders Skye & Lochalsh, Crocus Highland Mikeysline ,Community Contacts and others. Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations (SLCVO) will coordinate the overall model, engagement and transport support with statutory services including The Highland Council, NHS Highland, Social Work and Public Health joining the programme as it develops.

Children, young people and their families often tell us that Mother’s Day can be a particularly difficult time when you are missing someone special 💫 As we approach the day its often helpful to think about what you can do 💭 Maybe create a card with some special words, visit a place you recall being memorable, by the sea or at a local coffee shop, at the same time, its ok to do nothing and be with your feelings. The Highland Hospice have a wall of memories where you can share your story, say some words or share a picture 🌻

The Highland Hospice website provides information on our care services and opportunities to participate in fundraising or to volunteer for the Hospice.

When a baby dies everyone in the family is impacted by the loss and yet the affect the death has on a sibling, no matter their age, can be overlooked. Children are often the forgotten grievers. They may have a lot of questions and not have the tools to express all the emotions they are feeling.

Perhaps your child or children have questions about a sibling who died many years before they were born, and they can still feel that sense of loss and have many questions about what happened without ever having known the sibling who came before them.

Held In Our Hearts can help bereaved parents navigate how they might start to help their children to put some of the pieces back together again. Its not uncommon for Crocus to work with the children and young people who may be 'stuck' in their grief.

Its child mental Health week. Talking about su***de not only reduces the stigma but can also help someone struggling to seek help and rethink their options. It can be a tricky space to navigate for a lot of our families. Exploring provides space for connection and honest conversations.
It is safer to ask about su***de than to avoid the conversation. Language around su***de does need to be approached sensitively. Asking someone if they’re having suicidal thoughts can give them the space to tell you how they feel and let them know they are not a burden.

For advice on how to safely start conversations about su***de, visit the PAPYRUS website. 💜

Today is Time to Talk day and we're resharing our campaign from 2025, to remind you that talking about su***de not only reduces the stigma but can also help someone struggling to seek help and rethink their options.
