Red Chair Highland CIC

Red Chair Highland CIC Providing Digital Inclusion Services across the Highland Area Fully constituted non profit social enterprise company with a board of directors.

Emerging from lockdown under new management and with a new organisational focus, we decided to refresh our image and rebrand. We have streamlined our projects and our main focus is now digital inclusion services across the Highlands. We aim to improve digital Inclusion, overall wellbeing and reduce isolation for vulnerable individuals including older adults, those on benefits, recently released fr

om prison, suffering from substance misuse, refugees and those experiencing homelessness. Why Red Chair Highland? In early 2022 we completed our sustainability project which enabled us to become more visible in the community by engaging with locals and using our urban garden as a focal point in the area. People would often stop to chat and also donate items. One of these items was a red chair, donated by a kind member of the community. Our digital hub has gradually got busier and as we move into other, equally challenging times, the red chair sits outside our office every day, now accompanied by a lovely red bench and represents a welcoming and friendly environment for our service users, organisational contacts and community members. We were brainstorming one day to find a name that suited our organisational
goals going forward and Red Chair did just that! This encapsulates what we stand for - support and engagement. Welcome to Red Chair Highland!

LNER have shared the second video from their visit to our Digital Hub, highlighting the impact of the support they have helped make possible.

We are incredibly grateful to LNER for funding our project and helping us provide Chromebooks to people across our community. These devices have made a massive difference to the people we support, helping them build confidence, develop digital skills, access services, look for work, stay connected, and take part more fully in everyday life.

For many people, having the right device is the first step towards opportunity, independence and inclusion!

Thank you again to LNER for supporting our work and helping us tackle digital exclusion across the Highlands.

World Cup Bank Holiday🌍🏆

We will be closed on Monday 15th June for the World Cup bank holiday in Scotland.

As we don’t qualify for the World Cup all that often, we feel it would be rude not to fully commit to the occasion.

We’ll be up late cheering on the team, possibly shouting at the telly...

Normal service will resume after we have recovered emotionally.

Come on Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

We have recently had an AI chatbot added to our website, helping make it easier and more accessible for people to find information about our services, as well as signposting to other useful support and resources across the Highlands.

Our chatbot is called Denni, a play on Denny Street, where our Digital Hub is based.

Our website is still under renovation but we hope Denni will make it simpler for people to get the information they need, when they need it, and improve access to support in a more practical and user-friendly way.

This was made possible by Thinking ForWord Social AI, a small UK-based community interest company creating AI solutions for good. It has been fantastic working with them, and we are very grateful for their support and expertise.

We are looking forward to future collaborations and to seeing how this new tool can help more people. Give it a try!

Today was our last session in Poolewe, bringing our four-week series to a close.

We have had a great turnout and it has been fantastic to deliver these sessions over the past four weeks. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, took part and helped make the sessions such a success!

We would also like to say a big thank you to The Old Schoolhouse for having us and providing such a welcoming community space.

We were up in Golspie yesterday delivering the first of our four workshops at The Gatehouse - a cosy wee community space used by Change Mental Health. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side this week!

Funded by HTSI through the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, these sessions bring together group workshops and 1-1 support, helping people build digital confidence and get personalised help with their own devices or using the internet.

Building digital confidence can have real mental health and wellbeing benefits too - helping people feel less isolated, more connected, and more able to access information, services and support online.

We are looking forward to returning for the remaining sessions and continuing this support in the community!

Did you know that there are actually only four UK networks? All the others piggyback on their connections. 🐷

This means that you don't have to feel locked in, and you can always check to see if you can get the same signal on a cheaper Sim 📶 👇

Following lots of interest at our previous workshops, we are pleased to be running two more AI workshops at our digital hub in August.

With the use of AI continuing to grow, these sessions are designed to help people better understand what AI is, how it is being used, and how to approach it with more confidence.

On 10th August, we will be delivering Understanding AI and Practical Tips for Using AI in Everyday Life - a beginner-friendly session exploring what AI is and how it can be used for practical everyday tasks.

On 17th August, we will be running Spotting AI-Generated Content and News Stories, looking at how AI can be used to create realistic content online and how to spot red flags linked to misinformation, disinformation and scams.

Please see the poster for full details. We would love to see you there.
