ANNOUNCEMENT! We are delighted to announce the donation of the Voss Collection to the Boleskine House Library.

Comprising over 2,000 volumes spanning philosophy, esotericism, magic, religious studies, mysticism, and related fields, the collection represents a remarkable scholarly resource that will significantly enrich the library’s holdings.

The collection was assembled by Professor Karen-Claire Voss, a distinguished scholar of the history of religions. Professor Voss studied at San Jose State University, UC Berkeley, the Graduate Theological Union, and the École Pratique des Hautes Études at the Sorbonne. Her academic mentor was the renowned historian of Western esotericism, Antoine Faivre. Her publications have explored a wide range of subjects, including esotericism, magic, mysticism, alchemy, and the imaginal.

We are deeply grateful to Professor Voss and her partner, Alexander Kennedy, for their generosity in ensuring that this important collection will be preserved and made available to support future research and scholarship.

This is a significant addition to the Boleskine House Library and an exciting development for researchers and students of Western esotericism, religious studies, and the history of ideas.

After a slow start following a dry spring, nature is doing what it does best — and our wildflower meadow at Boleskine is bursting into colour at last.

From ox-eye daisies to clover and cornflowers, the flowers are drawing in bees, butterflies and other pollinators in wonderful numbers. It was worth the wait!

But it’s not just the flowers that make a wildflower meadow so special. The mix of grasses plays a huge role in supporting biodiversity too. They provide shelter and nesting material for insects, food for moth and butterfly larvae, and crucial habitat structure for small mammals and ground-nesting birds.

A meadow like this is one of the most biodiverse habitats in Scotland — and watching it slowly come into its own this season has been a real joy.

🐝 More updates to follow as the summer unfolds.

Looking for something a bit different this Father's Day? Bring him here.

Join us for a whisky tasting on the shores of Loch Ness — and pair it with a self-guided audio tour of one of Scotland's most fascinating historic houses. A pretty good Sunday, we'd say.

Meet Baba! Our grounds manager hard at work on an important job that's been a long time coming.

When we first seeded the wildflower meadow, we followed best practice and stripped back the top layer of soil. Wildflowers actually thrive in poorer, nutrient-low ground — rich topsoil encourages rank grasses to dominate and crowds out the delicate species we want to establish. So off it came!

For those of you who've visited us over the years, you may well have noticed that rather large pile of soil sitting at the edge of the meadow. Yes, that pile! We've always known it would find a new home eventually — and that day has finally arrived. 😄

Baba is busy redistributing it into the ground next door, where we're preparing to plant even more flowers. It doesn't look like much right now, we'll admit — but that's the thing about this kind of work. It's all about what comes next.

Come back and see us next year. 🌸
