151 years ago today, Aleister Crowley was born. He bought Boleskine House in 1899, and he was exactly the kind of person you’d expect to end up here: strong-minded, singular, and not interested in doing things the usual way.

So was almost everyone who owned it before and after him. Boleskine has a habit of finding the people who don’t fit the mould, and we’re only starting to tell their stories.

We’ve been awarded £98,000 from the SSE Hydro Community Fund. 🌱

It will pay for accessible paths through the estate, taking in the wildflower meadow, the wetland areas and a viewpoint over the surrounding landscape. There’s also tree planting, community planting, new flowerbeds and better bus infrastructure to the site.

This wasn’t only our idea. Most of it delivers priorities from the Stratherrick and Foyers Local Place Plan.

Work will happen in phases from this autumn to autumn 2027.

Second call: help publish never-before-seen poetry by Victor B. Neuburg (1883-1940), Aleister Crowley's magical partner and the publisher who discovered Dylan Thomas.

The Water Bearer and Intaglios, two book-length collections written in 1924-25, sat unpublished for a century. His granddaughter Caroline Neuburg studied them for years, and her notes will be the book's introduction.

October 2022: we couldn't afford to rebuild the gables in their original stone, so we used block-work. It's behind the walls now and you'll never see it. The budget went to the stone chimneys instead.

That's how this project has worked from the start. Do what the money allows, do it properly, keep going.

We're open now, and our first year is still taking shape. There's more being built and more to reveal. Every visit, membership and shop order is part of why it keeps moving.
