Thanks to Tracey for sending us the clips of the lion dance and also to her team at the Kingsmills Hotel for helping us celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Horse on Monday 23rd February 2026 for our members along with a mixed audience of friends from far and wide. They were dazzled by a traditional Chinese culture programme which included the Lion Blessing performance by the world famous Hong Lok Lion Dancing & Dragon Troupe, traditional Chinese Opera by the Glasgow Sing Ngai Hin Chinese Opera School, Chinese Dance and music by the Confucius institute of Herriot Watt performed by Director Wenjing Kang along with a teacher and student, piano recitals and Chinese singing by SHIMCA’S Chinese & Piano class students. Folk Singer Andy Chung(McChung) performed Chinese and traditional Scottish folk songs during our delightful 3 course meal.

Remember come along to watch our Lion Dance Display on Monday 23rd February 12.15pm at the Plainstones Elgin and the “Waking of the Lion” at the bottom of Market Brae Steps on the High Street in Inverness at 5.15pm. Look forward to sharing our joyous traditions and culture with everyone in Moray and the Highland!

We have had a lot of enquiries as to regards the new entry requirements into China for British passport holders. There seems to be a false impression going round that the new requirements have already started. This is not the case, so as of this moment there is no change to the current requirement of British passport holders needing a visa. The UK Government and the Chinese Government are in discussions as to when or if the new entry requirements will be in place. Once the Consulate in Edinburgh advise us of any change we will let you all know on this page. In the meantime we can advise you on your visa application.

See below the details of the public performances of this years Lion Dance to celebrate Chinese New Year. Our celebration banquet will be held at the Kingsmills Hotel the same evening so if you would like details of the banquet please contact Monica on 07595 895450. We are currently in the process of finalising the list of local schools the Lion will be visiting and will notify them in due course. Members of the Lion Dance troupe won awards in a recent competition in China for their routine. Please let all your friends know.

Well unfortunately the cafe is still closed. Monica is on extremely strong painkillers at the moment as it seems she has trapped one the large nerves that go from her neck down to her left hand. Hopefully the MRI scan she had yesterday will let us know what the cause is of her pain.
