The Archie Foundation Highland

The Archie Foundation Highland Making the difference for children facing healthcare and bereavement challenges in the Highlands. To achieve this, the fundraising target was raised to £2m.

The ARCHIE Highland office opened its doors on the 18th March 2011. A £1m campaign was launched to redevelop the Children’s Ward at Raigmore. The facility has truly excellent staff but the condition of the ward did not match up and facilities for both children and their parents were old fashioned and tired. Our campaign was to last two years, but then something incredible happened…

Just 18 months

into the campaign The ARCHIE Foundation reached the target of £1m. The people of the Highlands had shown how much they wanted better facilities for local children when they were sick by heavily supporting our plans. This huge volume and outpouring of support also made our partners, NHS Highland, take note and discussions began during the summer of 2012 to see if the project could be extended beyond the new ward. Through consultation about the project with our partners at NHS Highland, the opportunity of taking over Ward 11 arose, in which we could create a new Highland Children’s Unit. On the 25th of March 2016 we were overjoyed to announce that through the continued support of the Highland community, trust fund donations and local businesses we reached the £2m appeal target which enabled phases 1 and 2 of the New Highland Children's Unit to open in May 2016. The support meant a world class facility opened its doors to look after sick children throughout the Highlands and Western Isles. By giving children their own front door at the hospital, we have been able to transform the whole experience of being ill. Thanks to our amazing supporters, the staff now have a facility they can enjoy working in, the children a facility that takes the fear out of being in hospital and their parents a facility that helps take away some of the stress, and many of the problems, of having a sick child in hospital. The ARCHIE Foundation Highlands is here to stay and continue its fundraising journey to offer the new Highland Children’s Unit ongoing support to ensure it is equipped with up-to-date facilities and cutting-edge technology. Supporting the patients, parents and staff of this wonderful, world class facility. If you would like to organise an event then please contact us on 01463 888258 or email [email protected]

A HUGE Thank You to everyone who has organised events, attended events & donated to ARCHIE Highland! Your support means everything!

💙 Kiltwalk Staff Spotlight 💙

Meet Neil McGregor, our Business Development and Fundraising Manager for the Highlands, who will be taking on the Aberdeen Kiltwalk this Sunday as part of his challenge to raise £10,000 through 10 fundraising challenges this year.

Neil's connection to Archie is a personal one. His son was born 12 weeks premature, and he knows first-hand how important support can be for families during difficult times.

When asked why events like the Kiltwalk matter, Neil said: "Not only do they help raise vital funds, they also raise awareness of who we are, where we work and the families we support."

Fun fact: Neil once appeared on the BBC quiz show Wonderball! 🎉

There is still time to join Team Archie for the Aberdeen Kiltwalk this Sunday. Sign up today and help support babies, children and families across the north of Scotland: https://archie.org/events/kiltwalk-2026/

What a great night at The Archie Foundation Highland Quiz Night.
Huge thanks to Scott Murray of Murray Travel. Absolutely fantastic host and quizmaster - genuinely wouldn’t have been half as good without Scott at the helm.
Great to see teams from Highland Hospital Radio, several teams from NHS Highland (including CAMHS, Comms, The Birnie Centre and Paediatrics), BNI Tuath and Munro & Noble there and congratulations to Tracey Gill and her team for coming out on top.
A brilliant night of quizzes and games, especially the Rock n Roll bingo. To hear lots of teams singing along to the tunes was great.
Lots of thanks due to the many local businesses who supported us with raffle and games prizes so stay tuned for further posts.
Will also announce the total raised at the quiz, which help us support babies and children across the Highlands.
Thanks again to all who came along!!

Nathan and Jenny had the most fantastic time visiting Summers Nursery in Aberdeen for their cheque presentation celebration, where representatives from all 5 nursery locations came together to mark an incredible year of fundraising!🩵

We are so grateful to have been chosen as their Charity of the Year for 2025. The nurseries chose to fundraise to directly support Archie’s Child Bereavement Service, helping children and families navigate the heartbreak of loss🪁

After a staff member sadly lost her husband, the service was there to support the entire family during such a difficult time. Seeing first-hand the impact this support had, the nursery teams were shown just how vital this service is within our community.

The 5 nurseries were absolutely incredible with their fundraising efforts throughout the year, taking part in the Kiltwalk, hosting coffee mornings, and getting families and local communities involved every step of the way✨

A huge thank you to everyone at Summers Nursery for your continued and unwavering support. We are so incredibly grateful, and together we're delighted to announce that they raised an amazing £16,200.48!! 🎉

We’re also delighted to share that Summers Nursery will be supporting Archie once again this year, this time fundraising for Neonatal Services.

Meet our Kiltwalkers 💙

Say hello to Cath Walker, one of our wonderful Bereavement Support Workers at The Archie Foundation.

This will be Cath’s second time taking part in the Kiltwalk and she is no stranger to a challenge, having previously completed the London Marathon.

Cath says:
“I love raising money for charity and being part of such a joyful event where people come together to do something kind for others.” 💜

This year, Cath will be walking alongside fellow bereavement support workers Jenny and Aleysha, and is looking forward to plenty of chats and laughter along the way.

Cath shared how proud she is to work for Archie and to see first-hand the impact the charity has on children, young people and families across local communities every day.
