Aaron has reached over half way. 😮This week he hit 502,000KG out of his 1 million KG target. What a machine. We can't thank Aaron enough for taking on this challenge. After chatting yesterday, admittedly, he's starting to get a bit tired. We're not surprised, cause he's absolutely smashing it.

A new chapter for Discovery College Inverness!

We've got some exciting developments happening here, and we're making changes to our opening hours as we get ready for the next stage of our journey.

From 26th OCTOBER, our new opening hours will be 11am–3pm. Please note that our Wick opening hours will stay the same.

We're using this time to build on what makes Discovery College special, with a focus on welcoming volunteers, developing more sessions and activities, and creating even more opportunities for people to connect, learn new things and explore their mental health and wellbeing.

Discovery College is all about people, connection and discovering what helps us feel better. We're excited about what comes next and the opportunities this will bring to our community.

Thank you to everyone who makes Discovery College what it is. We're looking forward to this next chapter with you!

As part of this year’s Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival Highland at Eden Court Theatre and Cinema, Discovery College is honoured to share three deeply moving pieces of artwork created in memory of Iain-Gordon Macfarlane, a much-loved member of our community.

At the heart of the collection is a handmade cuddle blanket, created in Iain’s memory. Alongside it are two special pieces made by people who knew him through his musical talents: a decorated ukulele and a guitar bag. Each holds a personal meaning, reflecting the love, connection and memories that continue to live on through those whose lives he touched.

A special thank you to Burd Brown, who co-ordinated the creation of the cuddle blanket.

Iain was an incredibly kind person who brought joy to so many people at Discovery College and the wider Highland community. His presence meant so much to many of us and his loss continues to be felt deeply.

Through these creations, we hope to celebrate the person Iain was, remember the joy he brought to others and offer comfort to those who miss him. These pieces are a reminder that even when someone is no longer with us, the connections we make and the love we share remain.

We will be hosting a special event in Iain's memory on 6 February 2027, bringing people together to celebrate his life, remember the positive impact he had on so many people, and bring together those who knew and cared for him.

Sometimes, the things we find hardest to put into words can be expressed through art. And sometimes, art gives us a way to remember, to grieve and to celebrate a life that made a difference.

🌎 World Mental Health Day

This year's theme is: Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.

As you may already know, all of our peer support workers have their own lived experience. This is known as peer support.

Peer support allows individuals to connect in a different way with people who come through our space to that of a typical clinical setting. And we are so proud of how many connections we have made since we opened.

The Highlands can be somewhere where change takes a bit of time, but the data we have collected since we opened is proof that peer support works.

• 95% of people feel welcomed and safe
• 86% return to the service
• 38% report a significant improvement in well-being
• 100% connect with a trained lived-experience peer support worker
• 55% connect with other people engageing the service

From all the team at Discovery College and the wider team at Centred Scot, we are here for the Highlands.

🏋️‍♂️ Aaron is absolutely smashing his challenge! 🔥

Aaron has now lifted an incredible 411,885kg as part of his mission to lift 1 million kg by Christmas.

And he’s NEARLY HALFWAY there! 😮

He’s flying past his target of 250,000kg a month, putting in the work three times a week at The Forge Gym Inverness to raise money and awareness for mental health and wellbeing support in Inverness

Now we want to help him get to that million! 🎯
