This is to report that we have been made aware of two captures of pacific pink salmon this year. This is unusual, as the vast majority of these fish have been reported in odd years. Both fish were reported from the Lower Tweed in the last week – one a verified rod capture and the other caught by the research net fishery operated by the River Tweed in the lower river at Paxton. See image below.

Please can you remain vigilant to the possibility of pink salmon showing up this year, and if you do happen to catch one or are made aware of a capture/sighting, please could you report on our pink salmon app at Make a Report | Fisheries Management Scotland

Beauly Water Bailiffs were out checking for Kelts above Kilmorack and Aigas dams.
No Kelts were observed stuck behind the Dams.
This is an ongoing exercise.

The smolts are running, monitoring is a bit tricky in high flows but hoping warmer water temperatures over the weekend might see higher numbers in the trap. Thanks to Ian, Steve, Anne and Charlie who have helped out this week. We are currently in the process of flitting to the new office at Muir of Ord Village hall so hopefully that will be complete by the end of next week. Enjoy the sun! :)

A busy Saturday and Sunday morning for the Beauly Water Bailiff and the volunteer monitoring the Rotary Screw Trap for Salmon Smolts as well as patrolling the catchment.

A busy week so far! Smolt trap in today, ahead of planned monitoring next week (thanks SSE), Jim busy making our smolt holding boxes and a visit up the Farrar to discuss gravel re-introduction.... Thanks to Jim especially, and Highland Nature Restoration Fund for providing us with some extra kit :)
