Thanks go to all the helpers raking our wild flower meadow on Sunday morning.
All done and dusted in an hour or so!

We have now cut the meadow for the year using our trusty Allen Scythe. We really need some help raking the grass cuttings into lines to dry out. Details of our volunteering event on Sunday is in comments. But please go and rake some grass anytime over the next week or so - it is great exercise, good fun and pretty clear what we need done

Open day at Aigas Community Woods near Inverness.

The Aigas Community Forest are holding their annual open day on Saturday 12th of September! The day will run from 10am - 4pm and will be a mix of storytelling, crafts and activities.

Naturedays are running a stall and will have a nature table filled with interesting things for people to look at. We'll also be bringing our bug hunting kit along, in case we find any cool bugs for you all to see! 🪲🪳🪰

We had a fantastic Bat Walk last night as part of Highlands and Islands Climate Festival. Thanks to Katy and Zoe from Inverness Bat Group and everyone who came along. We saw and recorded three species of Bats - Common Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle and Brown Long-eared Bats. Highlands & Islands Climate Hub

Please come along to our AGM on Wednesday evening and hear about our progress and exciting plans for the woods - and catch a real expert talking about how to plan for tree safety. It is on Wednesday 26 August at 7.30 in Hilton Community Centre. Ordinary Members can vote on the proposed change to our Constitution. Details are on our website at https://www.culduthelwoods.org/

Please be aware that fire risk is now VERY HIGH. But the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has had to attend at least THREE incidents in and around the woods in the last two weeks. Parents and youth leaders should speak to young people about the risks of starting fires at any time in the woods. Don’t light fires, take your rubbish home and please dispose of ci******es properly. We are doing what we can to improve signage and increase patrols. Please dial 999 in an emergency and let us know of any ongoing concerns.

We were delighted to help host an urban orienteering event for Inverness Orienteering Club on Wednesday - part of an urban series happening all across North Scotland. This event used streets and green spaces all around the Locharil area, including the Culduthel Woods, and over 60 people took part. Further information about future events at https://invoc.org.uk/
