Our co-founders had the opportunity to speak on both BBC Radio Scotland and STV News following the release of the Director of Public Health Annual Report 2025 that highlights the devastating reality of child poverty across Scotland.
The figures are heartbreaking. Almost 13,000 children under the age of five in the Highlands are currently living in poverty, that’s 21.9% of children in our communities. And that number has barely changed since 2010.
Behind every statistic is a child. A child arriving at nursery without clean clothes. A teenager worrying about food at home. A parent skipping meals to make sure their little one eats first.
Every single day, we work alongside health visitors, schools, social workers, Women’s Aid, family nurse partnership and local services to support children across the Highlands.
The need across the Highlands continues to grow, and while yesterday’s interviews helped raise awareness, this alone is not enough.
To all of you who continue to support Halo, donating items, fundraising, volunteering or simply sharing our posts, thank you! You are helping us make sure children feel safe, warm, cared for and remembered during incredibly difficult times.
Every child deserves to thrive 💛
