Immingham Sea Cadets Whether at sea or on land, the Sea Cadets offers young people across the UK amazing opportunities for personal development

Whether at sea or on land, the Sea Cadets offers young people across the UK amazing opportunities for personal development - by learning new skills and working in teams - we offer an environment where young people find new confidence and inspiration. Established in 1856 the Sea Cadets was created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers

provided training while local businessmen funded the unit building. Today, 14,000 young people based in 400 units in towns, cities and ports across the UK are challenging themselves and developing new skills, like sailing, boating and rock climbing - supported by 9,000 volunteers. Our aim is to inspire young people through nautical adventure and challenge to help give them a head start in life.

💙 National Volunteers’ Week 💙

Today, we want to say thank you to the people who are the heart and soul of Immingham Sea Cadets — our volunteers.

Behind every parade, every boating session, every camp, every achievement, every smile, and every young person who has grown in confidence through Sea Cadets, there has been a volunteer giving their time, energy, and care.

This week, we celebrate every volunteer who has been part of our journey. Those who are with us today, those who have moved on to new adventures, and those who are sadly no longer with us. Each and every one of you has left your mark on our unit and on the lives of the young people we serve.

The photographs shared with this post capture just some of the incredible volunteers who have supported our unit over the years. We know there have been, and continue to be, many more volunteers than those pictured, and whether your face appears here or not, please know that your contribution is valued, remembered, and appreciated.

Many of our volunteers have given countless evenings, weekends, and years of service. They have stood in the cold, travelled long distances, organised events, raised funds, repaired equipment, offered guidance, shared knowledge, and provided a listening ear when it was needed most. They have done it not for recognition, but because they believed in giving young people opportunities to succeed.

To those volunteers we have sadly lost, we remember you with gratitude, respect, and affection. Your dedication helped build the unit we are proud to be today. The values you instilled, the memories you created, and the lives you influenced continue to live on through every cadet who walks through our doors.

To our former volunteers, thank you for helping shape our history.

To our current volunteers, thank you for carrying that legacy forward every single day.

The impact of a volunteer is often impossible to measure. It can be found in a cadet who discovers confidence they never knew they had, in lifelong friendships, in skills learned, challenges overcome, and futures changed.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Immingham Sea Cadets is more than a unit; it is a family. And families are built by people who care.

This National Volunteers’ Week, we celebrate every volunteer who has been part of our story, past and present. Your dedication has made a difference to generations of young people, and for that, we are forever grateful. 💙

Another fantastic week for our unit!

We were delighted to host our Annual RNP, welcoming the District and Area Team, to showcase all that our cadets and volunteers have achieved over the past year. It was a great opportunity for the visitors to meet our cadets, learn more about the unit, and discuss our ongoing activities and successes.

A highlight of the evening was seeing a number of our deserving cadets and staff receive awards and recognition, presented by Commander Bagot Jewitt. Congratulations to all those recognised for their hard work, commitment and achievements.

Our cadets have also been busy giving back to the local community through a litter-picking initiative, collecting a significant amount of rubbish from around the town and helping to keep our local area clean and welcoming. It was great to see everyone getting involved and making a positive difference in the community.

Among the items collected were plenty of discarded Domino’s boxes and packaging, highlighting the importance of disposing of litter responsibly and helping to keep our town looking its best.

Well done to all our cadets for their continued dedication, community spirit and professionalism. We look forward to another busy and rewarding week ahead!

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of one of our own — PO Kevin Canwell.

Kev was a driving force within our unit: an inspiration, dependable to the core, and more than a volunteer— he was a true friend and family to us all.

Kev was simply amazing. He gave his time so generously, attending every event and always showing up with dedication and enthusiasm (and his IPad!). He has probably driven the minibus more than anyone, always making sure others got where they needed to be. Kev was also the first person to offer help, and would always say yes to anything if it would benefit the unit or the cadets.

Through his countless hours of commitment, he helped shape the lives of so many young people, as well as the staff who had the privilege to volunteer alongside him. His impact will be felt for many years to come.

Kev will always be a big part of Immingham Sea Cadets and the Sea Cadet Corps.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Our thoughts are with Kev’s family at this incredibly difficult time. Words cannot fully express the heartache felt across the unit.

We will share details of funeral arrangements as soon as they are available.

Fair winds, PO Canwell.

Cadet Voice is all about giving cadets the chance to speak up, share ideas, and maybe even surprise themselves along the way.

Able Cadet Abi recently took part and came away with plenty of thoughts, lessons, and reflections. Heres what she learnt from the experience!

“I attended the 2026 Cadet Voice Training Weekend. It was a really interesting experience where I took part in a range of modules designed to help cadets represent the views of others and take part in youth advocacy within the organisation.

During the weekend we covered presentation and public speaking, safeguarding as a peer advocate, equity, diversity and inclusion, how to run a successful meeting, listening and communication skills, and interviewing staff techniques. These sessions helped build my confidence in speaking in front of others, listening to different viewpoints, and understanding how to effectively share cadets’ ideas and feedback.

It was also a great opportunity to meet cadets from very different units, share ideas, and work together in discussions and activities. One of the biggest things I gained from the weekend was an increase in my confidence, especially when speaking in front of groups and sharing my opinions. Overall, it was a really valuable and enjoyable experience, and I’m looking forward to using what I learned to represent cadets nationally and help improve the corps for others!”

A fantastic day for our Immingham Sea Cadets at the Brocklesby Point-to-Point today!

Our cadets were out in force selling race cards, helping visitors, and doing their part to keep the course tidy with some dedicated litter picking. We’re incredibly proud of how they represented the unit — polite, hardworking, and full of team spirit throughout the day.

Thankfully the weather stayed dry, and the sun even tried to make a few appearances, making it a great day for everyone involved.

Well done to all the cadets who took part, and thank you to the organisers for your support! ⚓ Brocklesby Races

Thank you Learning4Life for coming down to visit us and for highlighting your learners’ hobbies and interests—it was a pleasure to share what we do and see everyone getting involved!

It was great to have you all with us, and we hope you enjoyed the experience as much as our cadets do each week. ⚓

If you or someone you know would like to get involved, we welcome young people aged 10–18 and we’re also always looking for adult volunteers to join our team in a variety of roles—uniformed, non-uniformed, and committee positions.

Interested? Send us a message on our page for more information—we’d love to hear from you!

As a local charity, we understand just how vital fundraising is to keep our work going. That’s why we’re always eager to support fellow community organisations whenever we can.

This year, we were honoured to be asked by One Voice to help raise funds for their Christmas Project—an initiative dedicated to bringing joy to children whose families are experiencing difficult times. We’re proud to play a small part in making the season a little brighter for those who need it most.

🎉 A Huge Thank You to Our Local Sea Cadets! 🎉

We want to give a massive thank you to the amazing Immingham Sea Cadets who supported our Food Larder with a charity bag pack at Tesco today. Their hard work, enthusiasm, and community spirit helped raise an incredible £154.17, along with a fantastic boost in food donations. 🙌💙

We’re also so grateful to everyone who donated—whether it was spare change or items for the larder. Every contribution makes a real difference to local families, and the generosity within this town always shines through.

Thank you all for helping us support our community. 💛
Together, we make a bigger impact than we ever could alone.
