This quote really resonates with us.

Many carers give so much of themselves every single day. They provide support, companionship, reassurance, transport, meals, medication reminders, emotional support and so much more.

What people don’t always see are the sacrifices that happen behind the scenes. The cancelled plans, sleepless nights, worries, exhaustion and the feeling that there is never quite enough time for yourself.

At The Activity Companions, we believe carers matter too.

Whether it’s a few hours of companionship for a loved one, a day at our Social Club, or simply knowing there is someone else who understands, we want carers to know they are not alone.

This Carers Week, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every unpaid carer in our community. Your kindness, patience and dedication make a difference every day, even when it doesn’t always feel like it.

Yesterday, we were delighted to officially launch our very first Activity Companions Social Club session in Ilminster, and what a wonderful day it was!

It was heartwarming to see everyone enjoying friendship, laughter, meaningful activities, great conversation, and a delicious home-cooked lunch in our welcoming, dementia-friendly environment. The smiles, connections, and positive atmosphere made it a truly special day, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start.

Our Social Club is designed to provide older adults with companionship, purpose, and fun, while also offering valuable respite and peace of mind for families and carers. We are passionate about creating a safe, inclusive space where everyone feels supported and valued.

A huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for their generous grant, which has helped us get up and running. Their support has made it possible for us to create this much-needed service for older adults in our community, and we are incredibly grateful.

We are looking forward to many more enjoyable sessions filled with activities, friendship, music, conversation, and good food.

One thing we’ve discovered since starting The Activity Companions is that most people don’t come along to community events because of the tea, coffee or cake.

They come because they’re looking for connection.

A friendly face.
A conversation.
A reason to get out of the house.
A chance to feel part of something.

Sometimes all it takes is one visit, one chat or one welcome to make someone feel less alone.

Community matters more than we often realise 💛
