After more than two decades of making social impact films with communities in Africa and Asia, PFP founder Elspeth Waldie has written a new book: From Concept to Screen.

It’s for anyone trying to tell stories about disability or health in a way that feels human
and still holds attention.

The World Health Organization estimates 1.3 billion people (about 1 in 6 of us) experience significant disability.

If you want to be first to hear when it officially releases, join the email list - link in the comments ;)

Over 700 women a day died in 2023 from preventable pregnancy and childbirth causes, according to the Health Organization (WHO). And in remote regions, where reliable information doesn’t always travel fast, the risks can be even higher.

That’s why Purple Field Productions treats genre as a pillar, so stories can travel and connect more deeply with their realities.

In Di Kombra Di Krai (Cry of a Mother), drama opens the kind of conversations that can protect lives, especially when women support women.

PFP is proud to have been founded by a woman, Elspeth Waldie, who started from zero.
That same build-from-the-ground-up approach is now shared in her book, From Concept to Screen.

After our #1 film, Radio Bhai, was screened in local communities, conversations began to shift. Families started asking questions more openly, and misinformation slowly lost its grip. The change was not dramatic, but it was real.

Twenty years later, globally, 1 in 6 people still live with a disability (WHO, 2023). Yet stigma and misinformation remain among the biggest barriers to inclusion. In many communities, access to reliable information still determines whether someone is supported or isolated.

The impact of Radio Bhai did not begin with a camera. It began with a question: how do you communicate clearly in places where myths travel faster than facts? Writing the script meant choosing words carefully, thinking about tone, and making sure the story informed without reinforcing harm.

Every PFP film begins this way - on paper, with responsibility, with local collaboration.

Our founder, Elspeth Waldie, has reflected on this journey in her next book, exploring, among other things, how stories move from idea to impact without losing their ethical core.

Coming soon. Stay toned!

Fatmata Kalokoh used to live with her grandma when she got pregnant. She was only 15. The pregnancy was diagnosed after 2 months, when a few people noticed some weight loss.

The doctor was in another village. She was prescribed an abortion medicine that should work in 3 days. It didn't. But Fatmata just realized when she saw her belly getting bigger and bigger. When her mom found out, stopped talking to her.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case.

Without guidance, family and community support, women not only get left without assistance but also pass on their experience as a lesson. Access to information is critical to addressing changing realities, especially for future generations.

The stories in our short documentary "Voices of Motherhood" could be a novel or a fictional , but they are real. We use films as tools to share local concerns with local communities in Africa and Asia. Contextualized knowledge and lessons learned. In their native language, from their own people.

You can be part of our mission, too. Together, we create new realities.

In times of hope, education is enlightenment.

It helps us question, reflect, learn, change, and improve -- whether from within or through others.

This is our wish for the year ahead: a world less shaped by misinformation, and more guided by understanding.

Our films reach people in remote communities across Africa and Asia. With your consistent support, they can reach many more -- and touch lives where access to education and dialogue is still limited.

Let’s build a hopeful 2026 together.
Happy New Year.

December brings an important reminder about visibility. This week, conversations about disability gained space around the world thanks to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. But, in many communities, the stigma remains stronger than the dialogue.

At Purple Field Productions, we witness this reality through our films. When a story is shown in a rural village, something simple and powerful happens: understanding replaces fear, curiosity replaces judgment, families and friends begin to see possibilities they had never imagined for their loved ones.

Our films on disability, including LISILOJULIKANA – The Unknown, show what can change when information finally reaches the people who need it. They spark conversations, shift beliefs, and open doors to inclusion where it previously seemed impossible. It's beautiful and touching to see the change.

Awareness shouldn’t be limited to a single date. It should live in every conversation that helps a child feel seen, a parent feel supported and a community feel empowered to learn and transform.

In our channel, you can find this and 10 other films on the theme! Explore these stories and the impact they create! Link on comments and bio ;)

No child should get sick from drinking water. But in Sierra Leone, unsafe water causes diarrhoea that keeps children out of school and sends families to clinics.

Globally, diarrhoea is still one of the leading killers of children under 5 -- even though it’s preventable.

Alone we go faster, but together we go further. Each of us is a vital link in creating the transformation we seek.

And Aggie Mbewe is definitely a great partner. Today, we celebrate the birthday of this great founder member of . A friend who worked on all productions and also directed her own short film for the FOCUS Film Festival, about prejudice against people with disabilities, which we highly recommend you watch (link in comments). A five-minute story that helped many people change their perspective about differences. Congratulations, Aggie! Thank you for all your support.

With her, you, and all of us, the world can be a better place.

If you are not a donor yet, we are waiting for you. Link in bio!

We hear it often. Because our films aren’t about local stories -- they are local stories.

When villagers recognize their lives on screen, it changes how they feel. And what they believe is possible.

The World Bank confirms that community-led programs see 25–60% higher engagement rates than top-down ones.

That’s why we don’t lead. We listen. Then we co-create.

At , we don’t fly in filmmakers. We train local teams to write, direct, act, and produce.

The change comes from someone who has a deep understanding of the story we are telling. Walk the talk is absolutely relevant in their environment. Someone who talks like them, lives like them. That is where the connection starts.

Films about maternal death, disability, or discrimination hit differently when they’re told from within.

Want impact that lasts? Fund a story that’s truly local.
