Ilminster Midsummer Experience (IMEx) has been running since 2008 and is now firmly established as a major tourist attraction. There are dozens of events covering the arts, sports, exhibitions, a food and crafts show, a family dog show, a major classic car show and much, much more. Many visitors come to see the famous Ilminster Banner and Flag Festival. This colourful event celebrates many of the
town’s businesses and organisations with almost 100 flags throughout the town. Everyone is welcome. There is sure to be something to appeal to all members of the family. Experience Ilminster Community Interest Company was set up in 2007 following a public vote on the awarding of a grant from South Somerset District Council. As a Community Interest Company all of the people involved in its administration and activities, including its directors, are volunteers and receive no financial benefits and any surplus the company makes has to be retained to benefit the community. Exil, as it is commonly known, acts as a community resource and its facilities and experience in promoting events is available to other community groups or for public celebrations. Its purpose is to celebrate and promote Ilminster and its community in all its variety and to raise the town’s profile in the surrounding area.
