Illogan WI’s walk this month was a short half day amble on the Great Flat Lode from Wheal Francis to King Edward Mine and back. It was a very warm day so the refreshments at the Croust Hut at King Edward were very welcome,

Wednesday 5th August, members of Illogan WI met for a lovely lunch at Tricky’s near Redruth. No official meeting this month but we couldn’t resist a get together, just because we can!

On Saturday 1st August members of Illogan WI held a stall at the Illogan Horticultural & Domestic Show to raise funds for Hidden Help - a local charity who are based in Scorrier, near Redruth, Cornwall, that provides free recycled furniture and essential household items to vulnerable people in urgent need, such as the homeless, refugees, and those fleeing domestic violence, via professional social service referrals. ([email protected])
A handsome sum of £350 was raised & presented to the charity. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated items to sell, to our members who organised the stall for the event, to members who gave their time to set up & clear away & cover the stall over the day & to the customers who very kindly parted with their £’s to help raise this grand total. 👏👏👏
Thanks also to those members who acted as stewards & judges on the Domestic sections of the show and a massive congratulations to those who dared to enter the competitions & won certificates. One special mention must go to our Sue Perkins who gained the Best in show cup for several amazing categories - well done Sue 🏆🎉 - Well done ‘Logan Maids’, it’s not all Jam & Jerusalem!😉💐🎈

This months walk for Illogan WI started on the Penrose estate at Degibna then down by Loe Pool and then up to Halzephron and a very welcome stop at the Inn for lunch. We took the coast path back, which was very warm with the occasional sea breeze. There were lots of butterflies and moths on route , beautiful scenery and wonderful company.

On Wednesday evening, after a warm welcome from our President Anne Rowe and singing Jerusalem, members of Illogan WI watched a Cyanotype demonstration by Dee from Natural Patterns. Her enthusiasm and passion for the craft shone as she explained the history and the process for creating this beautiful art. Members were invited to visit her at an exhibition in St Ives Arts Club 11th to 17th July and to take part in a workshop in September/October. Everyone left smiling. Thank you Dee 🖼️🎨🙏

Yesterday a few of Illogan WI members joined the event at Trewithen Gardens arranged by the Flowers and Gardens subcommittee. We had a very interesting and enjoyable guided tour around the gardens and a walk to the ponds followed by a delicious lunch in the cafe. We were then free to roam as we wished. A lovely visit enjoyed by all, Huge thanks to all of those involved in organising the visit.

This months walk for Illogan WI was from Rinsey Head to Praa Sands along the coast path and then back inland. A bit breezy and one brief shower but fantastic views of Mounts Bay and the Lizard. Plenty of chatter and laughter with a delicious lunch stop in Praa Sands.
