I hope all of our staff and children who are off for half term are enjoying the sunshine! Yesterday, our Toddlers and Preschool children enjoyed a lovely spring walk along the beach and canal. Wearing their sunhats and covered in sun cream, we set off ready to explore, using our senses to explore our local community. As we strolled along the beach, We spoke about what they could see and hear. They spotted the stones along the shore and watched a boat moving across the water. Excitedly, some of the children pointed to the seagulls squawking as they sat on the stones. We then stopped at the benches along the beach to enjoy a snack and a refreshing drink. Afterward, we continued our walk and went along the canal, where the children spotted ducks and passing boats. Lots of enthusiastic “quack quack” sounds could be heard as we spoke to the ducks! On our way back to the nursery, we said good morning to the postman as he delivered the post. The children thoroughly enjoyed being out in the local community, taking in the fresh spring air and bright sunshine.

Thank you to the wonderfully generous team at Hambrook & Johns Hythe for their kind donations of Easter eggs and treats for our nursery children. The children have been absolutely thrilled!

New screen time guidance for parents of under-5s:

Under 2s: Avoiding screen time other than for shared activities that encourage bonding, interaction and conversation.

2 to 5-year-olds: Trying to keep it to no more than one hour a day. Avoid at mealtimes and in the hour before bed.

Content: Choosing slow-paced, age-appropriate content. Fast-paced, social media-style videos and AI toys or tools should be avoided for young children.

Co-viewing: Watching or using screens together - talking, asking questions and engaging with the content - is better for children’s development than solo screen use.
