Knowsley Older People's Voice hosted their Annual General Meeting in July and were pleased to have local MP Anneliese Midgely attend virtually by video as our guest speaker after following KOPV's support for her Pension Credit campaign last winter.

We were made aware in August, that a KOPV member who attended had made some negative comments on BBC Radio Merseyside regarding this, particularly that Annelise did not attend in person. We would like to clarify that this member was not speaking on behalf of KOPV. As Parliament was still in session, the Steering Group were happy for a pre-recorded message to be shown at the event and were pleased with the content and the offer to meet up in person at a later date to discuss older people's experiences in Knowsley.

We look forward to working with Anneliese and our other local MP's in future regarding issues faced by over 55's in Knowsley.

We’re looking forward to joining other services and local organisations with promoting Falls Prevention Week.

Many of our health activities, green gym equipment in our parks and our volunteering programs are good opportunities to access free exercise to encourage building strength, reduce the likelihood of falls as well as socialising and building confidence getting to know our spaces better.

For more information on Falls Prevention Week 🔽

📢To celebrate Falls Prevention Week, Knowsley Council and its partners have organised a drop-in event for residents on Thursday 18 September at Volair Huyton.

📉Taking place from 15-19 September, Falls Prevention Week aims to reduce the risk of falls to help older people live independently and without anxiety over falling which is a leading cause of injury and death for older adults.
Attendees will be able to take part in a number of talks and demos throughout the four-hour event.

📅 Thursday 18 September
📍 Volair Huyton
⏰ 10am to 2pm

💬 Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Health, said: “Falls prevention is all about supporting our residents to live independently and help reduce trips to our local A&E departments. By increasing knowledge and access to services to improve strength, balance and confidence, residents are able to live in their own homes for longer and ultimately have a better quality of life.”
