The Listening Post (Hurworth) FRIDAY NIGHT DROP-IN / HANG OUT

Friday Night Drops-In provides a safe place for young people (Year 7 - Year 13) to come and socialise with their

friends, offering pool, air hockey, a computer suite, quiz nites, craft activities and a low cost tuck shop. A number of young people also volunteer to assist with the running of the club and have used the experience of working at the Drop-In towards their Duke of Edinburgh award. DETACHED YOUTH-WORK PROJECT

The detached youth work takes place alongside the Drop-In on Friday evenings, as a team of detached volunteers engage with young people who may be hanging out around Hurworth. THE LISTENING POST (Hurworth)

The Listening Post is a listening and mentoring service that works in Hurworth Academy providing low-level mental health and well-being support and is part of the wider Listening Post work across Darlington. Darlington Area Churches Youth Ministry is the lead partner in the Hurworth Youth Project. The provision of the Friday Night Drop In & Hang-Out is supported by All Saints Church and local volunteers. The detached youth-work is supported by Hurworth Parish Council and local volunteers. The Listening Post (Hurworth) is supported by Hurworth Rogers Trust.

A great Hang-Out session to finish off this academic year! It has been a tremendous year.

The Friday Night Drop-In has been going for at least 20 years! It has evolved over the years into the Hurworth Youth Project with the younger Hang-Out, the older 7-UP Club and occasional detached sessions. We have literally worked with 100’s of young people over the years.

We hope everyone has a great summer whether it is a staycation or the opportunity to travel further afield.

Massive thanks to the team of leaders who deserve credit for turning out week after week to keep all our youth activities running!

See everyone in September!

GOOD NEWS - we will be running the HANG-OUT (for those in school years 4, 5 & 6)on Friday as normal 6pm to 7.30pm! 😀

BAD NEWS - we won’t be running the older 7-UP Club! 😭

MORE BAD NEWS - after Friday we will be closed for the summer holidays… 🫣

GOOD NEWS we’ll be back in SEPTEMBER 😁

What a scorcher of a week… we are open as usual tonight (6pm to 7.30pm - Hang-Out & 7.30pm to 9pm - 7UP Club) - it’s a good job we have some ice-pops to hand out tonight (whilst stocks last).

We hope all the Year 6’s have had a fantastic few days on transition at their respective secondary schools!

We will have some ‘Be Kind to Yourself’ Listening Post wristbands for sale (just a £1).

The music playlist will be questionable as always!

Support our sister project...

We are excited for our fundraising gig TOMORROW (Thurs) at The Forum Music Centre. Three local bands, and a bonus mini acoustic set from Jim Soler. Do come down and support - get your tickets in advance (ticket link in the comments), and there will be a raffle on the night!

The Listening Post supports hundreds of young people with 1-2-1 listening sessions every academic year with listeners working alongside every Darlington Secondary School and 11 Primary Schools!

*** My listening sessions have been really helpful. They have allowed me to talk about those things that are on my mind. I am now getting better grades and feel less self conscious about myself. They have helped me to turn a corner with my confidence - Year 11 Student, May 2026 ***

A massive THANK YOU to all the volunteers who turn out week after week to help keep the Friday night activities of Hurworth Youth Project alive. Each one is an absolute superstar!

We are always on the look out for more volunteers - you don't need to commit to every week, simply join the rota and join in the fun!
