We're thrilled to share that Professor Stephen Leveson, one of the founders of York Against Cancer, has been awarded an MBE for his services to cancer patients in North Yorkshire!

Speaking to The Press in York Professor Leveson said the honour is β€œas much for the charity as it is for me – I’m very glad to accept it on their behalf. It’s all come as a surprise, but a pleasant surprise."

Professor Leveson founded York Against Cancer in 1987 along with fellow surgeon, Mr John Craven and university researcher, Professor Colin Garner. Since then, York Against Cancer has raised over Β£20 million to support people affected by cancer across York and parts of North and East Yorkshire.

From everyone at York Against Cancer, congratulations Professor Leveson!

This Volunteers' Week, we want to say a big, massive thank you to all of our amazing Leveson Centre volunteers πŸ’™

Every day, you help us welcome people through our doors, always with the offer of a cuppa or a biscuit. Your empathy is worn right on your sleeve as you chat with our Centre visitors, offering a listening ear to help ease the burdens of everyone who comes along. With only a small team of staff, you truly make what we do and the support we offer possible - always ready to step in when a shift needs covering, taking on projects like our toppers head coverings, helping out at events, and so much more than we can list in just one post!

Thank you so much to every single one of you! We're so lucky to have you on the team πŸ’™

Not long to go until our charity run R U Taking the P…? πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’™

Did you know? Almost 100% of people diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer will survive for 5 years or more after their diagnosis. For late stage diagnosis, this sadly drops to 50%.

That's why spreading awareness of prostate cancer and encouraging people to get tested is vital. Help us spread the message when you sign up today πŸ‘‰ https://register.enthuse.com/ps/event/RUTakingtheP2026
