Thomas Birch, who chairs our Board of Trustees, spoke during this Volunteers' Week about the important roles volunteers, past and present, play in supporting 1st Hunts Hartford Scout Group. One of the oldest Scout groups in the world, the organisation continues to deliver skills for life to boys and girls in Huntingdon.

"This Volunteers' Week, I want to say thank you to everyone who has got involved in scouting, whether a Leader, Trustee, or occasional parent helper."

Volunteers' Week runs 1st - 7th June 2026.

We are always looking for more volunteers, either during our sessions or working behind the scenes as a Trustee. If you or someone you know would like to get involved, let me know.

Tonight we held our AGM at Little Paxton Lakes. Our parents and young people worked together to build a self supporting DaVinci Bridge, did some axe throwing and had a campfire.

This week it's Volunteers Week 1 - 7 June 2026.

Thank you to all our volunteers whether leaders, trustees or occasional helpers. Without your kind support we couldn't keep 1st Hunts Hartford Scout Group going.

If you would like to get involved, message our group and come along for a trial.

Earlier this month our Beavers walked around Huntingdon picking up litter to give something back to the community. This teaches our young people important skills about everyone's responsibility to the environment. Well-done Beavers 🩵

Every Founder’s Day is an opportunity to look back and reflect on the kindness and generosity of the many volunteers across Scouts worldwide.

We’re all part of a global movement and together we make an incredible impact.

Today is a special day for all Scouts – it’s a celebration of our shared values and a common goal - working towards peace, unity and international friendship.

From the very start to where we are today, the dedication and commitment from all our volunteers has never wavered.

It doesn’t matter how you help - whether you deliver our programme to young people, help behind the scenes or lead a team of volunteers. No matter how big or small, the time you give to helping others makes a difference.

It may not always feel like plain sailing, and sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone, but every one of you consistently steps up to support our young people. Helping them to try new things, making lasting friendships and importantly, to learn vital skills for life.

What you do helps our young people to grow and shine bright. Thank you for continuing to inspire us and half a million young people every day – we really appreciate all that you do.

Thank you,

Dwayne Fields

This week, our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts took part in a really hands-on baking session, which was very kindly led by The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) from Huntingdon and Peterborough.

It was great to have two historic organisations come together this week, and it was a really fun night. Next week, our Young People will host their parents and carers for an Afternoon Tea, where they will serve their creations.
