The Fenland Light Railway is a 7 ¼ inch gauge Narrow Gauge Railway This is probably unique in the United Kingdom except if you visit a mine.

The Fenland Light Railway is a 7 ¼ inch gauge Narrow Gauge Railway
Operating Steam, Electric and Petrol locomotives. We operate on an oval of track of approx. 300 yards long the majority of which is at sea level but dips below mean sea level in a few places. Mereside Drove station is positioned by the verge side car park and entrance, opposite to this is Refreshment Halt approached by reversing in

to our terminus station where our refreshment room is located, here you can enjoy a nice cup of tea, coffee, or, a soft drink with a piece of real Homemade Cake while watching the trains go by and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Its nice outside when the weather is fine or inside if some shelter is required. To catch a train from Mereside Drove and back again (a total of 4 circuits) is just £1.00, per person

Today some of our dedicated volunteers finished the last remaining jobs to our gazebo project.

A majority of this project was funded by a grant of £12750 from Glassmoor Bank Windfarm.

The Gazebo project has been designed and built with many environmental considerations.

The main structure is from Douglas Fir, a highly sustainable and renewable building material.

The Solar panels and battery storage not only power lighting under the gazebo, but has hugely reduced the amount of electricity we consume from the grid.

Our total electricity usage in July was £11, without the solar and battery that would have been considerably more.

Rainwater ( When there is any) is collected from the roof and stored in a 1000l container. This can then be used around the site for many applications.

Information posters are located adjacent to the gazebo explaining about how solar works and is used as well as about rain water collection.

Many thanks to Glassmoor Bank Windfarm for opportunity to do this project that has a huge benefit for both our visitors and volunteers.

Without a dedicated team of volunteers this project, running days or other projects would not be possible, So many thanks to them.

Tickets are on sale for our 2nd August 2026 running day – Pre-Book Only

On a running day we run 2hr booked sessions with 14 groups of up to 6 persons in each group, this reduces the number on site and gives each group their own dedicated seating under shelter if the rain finds us.
We have 6 seating pods and 8 picnic tables (gazebo covered) to allow for seating for all the groups.
This is a booking slot for a family or group of up to 6 persons
- Each booking (group) is £15, we will then issue you 7 tickets when you arrive on site to use for train rides, drink and cake tickets.
(1 ticket each item per person)
- You will only be allowed to be onsite for the 2 hours you have booked so it is highly recommended you turn up at the beginning of the session so you can fit in enough rides and make the most of your visit.
ADDITIONAL RIDE /REFRESHMENT TICKETS CAN BE PURCHACED ON THE DAY
Train Rides @ £1.50 per person/ride
Hot/Cold Drinks @ £1.50 each
Homemade cakes @ £1.50 per portion
Card and Cash payment methods are available onsite.
