Magpas Air Ambulance

Magpas Air Ambulance Magpas Air Ambulance is a charity that provides lifesaving care 24/7. With you, we save lives.

Magpas Air Ambulance brings crucial lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies in the East of England and beyond, 24/7. The Magpas Air Ambulance medical team receives enhanced training which allows them to offer procedures and treatments at the scene, like general anaesthetic, which are usually only available in hospital. This means that the frontline care the team

delivers doesn’t just save lives, it helps seriously ill and injured people return to a good quality of life. The charity relies on generous public donations to continue saving lives.

However you spent it, we hope all our supporters have had a safe and enjoyable bank holiday weekend! And after months of hot weather, it’s certainly been a welcome change for our medics working 24/7 to see cooler temperatures returning and even some rain across the region.

Hopefully we see some greenery back in the countryside soon, but this week’s by Critical Care Paramedic James gives you a glimpse of just how dry it's been.

Over the past two weeks, five new clinicians have been put through their paces in preparation to join the Magpas Air Ambulance team.

In that time, they've completed our specialist Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) training course—which follows a national training course that all new PHEM doctors across the country complete—and includes lectures, practical skills stations and realistic incident simulations. This helps hospital-based clinicians prepare for the unique challenges of delivering lifesaving care in unpredictable, pre-hospital environments before they join our team on shift.

The next phase of their training will see them take on a series of supervised shifts, responding to incidents as part of the duty team.

A big thank you to Biggleswade Evening WI for taking part in CPR training with Alison, one of our small team of volunteer CPR trainers!

Did you know that bystander CPR can double a person’s chances of survival and, if they are given defibrillation within 3-5 minutes, survival rates can increase by 50-70%? Often, someone's survival of a cardiac arrest depends on those around them.

Knowing what to do in those crucial first few minutes of a cardiac arrest can make a huge difference. By learning CPR and how to use a defibrillator, more people can be prepared to step in and help when every second counts.
