Take care during the current Amber Heat -Health alert. Stay safe.

With an Amber Heat-Health alert declared for 4 regions of England - and several others seeing yellow alerts - it's worth watching out for those who find it difficult to cope with high temperatures. ☀️ 🌡️

25/07/2026

🌞A yellow heat-health alert is in place across our local area until 9am on Sunday.

Hot weather will be great for some of us, but it can put some people’s health at risk - particularly those over 65, babies and young children under 5.

For advice on how to stay well in hot weather, search ‘NHS Heatwave’ online.

🥤Keep hydrated
☀Avoid the sun during the hottest parts of the day
🪟Keep your home cool

Today, we’re highlighting our work with clients of Cambridgeshire County Council's High Impact Unit service, and sharing why trusted local support matters.
Joe Gilbert, HIU Service Manager, said, “I hold Disability Huntingdonshire in very high regard. They provide vital support to many individuals on our caseload, people with significant care and support needs, often living in highly chaotic circumstances and frequently described as facing multiple disadvantages or as ‘chronically excluded adults’.”

Behind every small charity are people who care deeply — staff, volunteers, trustees, supporters, and the people who trust us to be there when life feels difficult.
Today, we’re sharing Madge’s story: a simple but powerful example of what practical, compassionate support can look like.
Madge came to DISH for help applying for Attendance Allowance. With sight difficulties and caring responsibilities for her husband with Alzheimer’s, the form felt overwhelming. So, we visited her at home and supported her step by step through the process.
The outcome? Madge was awarded the benefit — and it has made a real difference to her day-to-day life. She can now pay for a gardener and cleaner, and use taxis to get out and about, giving her greater independence and confidence.
This is why small charities matter.
